I think center depth of Monahan, Backlund, Bennett and Jankowski is an incredible asset to have. I'm glad everyone is on the same page about not vanquishing one of then to the wing to stunt their development in a position they are already (at a minimum) average at, as their floor.

I'd hate to see page after page of stajan and Lazar as our bottom six centers.

I don't think that tonight's lineup is better than last year's because of its depth -- in that facet, it's awfully similar. I feel that tonight's lineup is significantly improved from last year because Hamonic has replaced Wideman, Stone has replaced Engelland, and Smith has replaced Elliott.

I have never understood the dislike of Stajan. I will admit that Jankowski is a definite asset. Hopefully he sticks.

We'll miss Engelland's toughness. Smith better than Elliott is yet to be decided.

Should be more consistent at least. Smith has faced a TON more shots and played in a whole lot more games than Elliott over the last handful of years. He hasn’t been all-world, but he’s been on a bad team.

I’m willing to put faith in an average goalie on a bad team for 55-60 games a year over a good goalie on a good team for 40 games a year.

What I am hoping but is also realistic
Gaudreau Monahan Ferland
Tkachuk Backlund Frolik
Versteeg Bennett Jagr
Lazar Jankowski Brouwer
Stajan Hathaway

Giordano Hamilton
Brodie Hamonic
Kulak Stone
Bartkowski

Smith
Lack

I am kind of hoping they trade Stajan and use Freddie as an extra, but it's not a big deal. I don't see the problem with Bartkowski sitting in the press box as I think Rasmus could benefit from another season in Stockton

If we really wanted to roll four lines...
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Bennett - Jagr
Frolik - Backlund - Brouwer
Stajan - Jankowski - Versteeg

Brouwer would play well with Backlund and Frolik.

Lineup w/o Brouwer:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Frolik - Backlund - Jagr
Tkachuk - Bennett - Versteeg
Stajan - Jankowski - Lazar

Could we see Jagr on the top line with Ferland moving down to play with Sam and Versteeg? Not at the start of the season, but maybe a few months in...

I would say it's fairly likely

I like Stajan. The hate for him is almost totally salary related. Take that away and almost any team would have him as a fourth line C.

I would guess Jagr plays third line for minutes, but plays on the #1PP unit.

those top 9 forwards and top 4 defensemen look so freaking good on paper. Hope it is good on the ice, too.

49 points behind Gretzky alltime! He can do it as a Flame this year!

You are looking at Gretzky's assist numbers.
