Quote:
A week after winning one of the top board game awards in the world, a Calgary board game company is hoping to win closer to home, at Alberta’s first gaming industry awards.
Paul Saxberg, community manager at Calgary-based Roxley Game Labratory, said his company learned last week they had won the best strategy game award in the international Golden Geek Awards.
Roxley’s game Brass: Birmingham, was also the runner up for the Game of the Year Award.

We've been playing a tonne of Great Western Trail with the Rails to the North expansion and it's so good. The expansion just makes the game so much better. And we've also been playing a lot of Terraforming Mars.

What do you mean, on table top?

Jury chairman Harald Schrapers and Kinderspiel des Jahres chairman Christoph Schlewinski announced the nominees and other recommended titles during a live broadcast on Facebook, with these three titles being nominated for Spiel des Jahres 2020:
• My City, by Reiner Knizia from KOSMOS (video overview)
• Nova Luna, by Uwe Rosenberg and Corné van Moorsel from Edition Spielwiese (video overview)
• Pictures, by Daniela and Christian Stöhr from PD-Verlag (video overview)
Aside from these nominations, the SdJ jury recommended the following six titles: Color Brain, Draftosaurus, The Fox in the Forest, Kitchen Rush, Little Town, and Spicy.
Note that the Spiel des Jahres award is primarily aimed at family gamers, i.e., those who play games but aren't heavily into the gaming scene.

Closer to home, Fallcon pulled the plug today as well.
Troutman, I picked up Teotihuacan. Damn that thing is a beast for tablespace, I'm going to need to wait for my family to clear their stuff off the dining room table to dig into it.

My wife cannot be stopped - she bought the expansion for Suburbia, and has Maracaibo on the way. Also purchased Brass Birmingham which is apparently shipping in June.
I started playing board games last year and I've become hooked. My wife and I play daily, and we are getting our 5 year old into it as well with games like Hiss, Ghost Fighting Treasure Hunters, and Slamwich. Such a good hobby, and while the games are expensive, we are saving money by not going out and spending money on food and other shopping...etc.

Teo is in Beta on BGA:

I have played solo a few times - I like it but have not beat the Bot yet. I think I need to gather more workers in each area to get the bigger benefits.

I wish I had seen this earlier. Amazon kind of sucks for board games as I find them way more expensive than they should be. I like using 401games.ca or greatboardgames.ca. Both are physical Canadian retailers (along the lines of Sentry Box) that have pretty great online stores. You could get Gloomhaven, for instance, for $132.95 on 401 and they offer free shipping over $150. My friends and I will usually order a bunch of X-Wing stuff together and save a bunch of money this way.

Yeah Amazon it terrible for games. I keep hearing about the great sales that the US gets, either from Amazon or other US retailers, and we get nothing, ever. Maybe $5 off something that is already over priced. It is really frustrating.
Another good store in Canada is boardgames.ca. They are based in Edmonton and have good prices

We’ve been playing a lot of Clue at our house. I didn’t grow up liking this game. It’s much more fun winning. Kids suck at Clue.

Has anyone seen the "Board James" videos by the Angry Video Game Nerd on YouTube?
Some real nostalgia trips in there.

So my board game that I'm bringing to kickstarter in November is now playable via Tabletop Simulator, with a heavily-scripted mod. Medium-weight euro with worker-placement, pickup and deliver about the Canadian transcontinental railway. It won the Canadian Game Design Award last year, and is a finalist for the Cardboard Edison award this year.

If anyone wants to check it out, I'm happy to teach it to you!
