I'd feel a bit bad for Maroon if this contract is legit. It means the Blues used his feelings towards his son to put the screws to him.
Maroon has only made about $7 million dollars in his career. He could really use a $10 million contract to really set himself up for life.
When guys like Roussel and Beagle are getting $3 million per, Maroon deserves at least that much.

The Athletic reporting that other teams have made significant pushes recently that might have Maroon reconsidering.

Part of me still really likes the thought of adding more muscle to the line-up; id still want just one year though which seems highly unlikely now.

Could definitely see a few teams offering 1 or 2 yr/~$3 million AAV especially now that the rumored offer has leaked. Maroon would have to really consider the financial and personal/family side of things

Yeah this was supposed to be Maroon's pay day. Who knows what his Janaury 1st extension might look like, but I feel like this is when the guy should be cashing in.

So he hasnt signed yet? I have to admit, that contract seems really low.
One generally doesnt take a discount on a 1-year contract after a career year unless he thinks that at 30 hes going to really knock this next season out of the park.
You'd think the PA would have a fit.

At some point the player and the agent has to weigh the risks of musical chairs and get something done.
I think he was up against it trying to fit into cities that were running out of room. Edmonton is tight, the Blues and Flames added bigger fish while the Maroon conversations were going on.
Suddenly there's not many spots left.

he has a preferred location, the Blues have $5M in cap space for Edmundson (likely getting north of $3.25M) and anyone else. Not much wiggle room

Why? if he wants to play in a certain city he has to go with what they are willing to pay.
Or pick the highest bidder, his choice

Yeah, I think this is most likely what happened with Maroon. The delay in this signing is what is most surprising, and I think the reason for that is pretty clearly that he rapidly ran short of options between 1–2 July. I suspect he had offers on the table, but was holding out for something closer to StL, which just didn't materialize until quite late, and long after other teams had filled holes with better players, or with cheaper contracts.

When your options are only either a $4Mx4 from Edmonton or a $1.7Mx1 from St. Louis I know which deal I’d be taking...
The $1.7Mx1.

And he wasn't even fielding that offer from the Oilers. They can't afford it.

A player is only worth what he is worth to the team. If they really wanted him they would offer more.

really? I wouldn't. he's a 4th line player that had one good year riding McDavid's coattails.
never scored more than 14 goals in a year other than 2 years ago with McDavid and had enough value that the ducks were paying 25% of his contract just to be done with him.
1.7m for a year playing hockey in the same town as his kid sounds pretty nice.
add to the fact he's already made 8 million, he's done ok for himself considering his skill set.

Patrick Maroon is a hell of a lot better than merely a "4th line player." Come on.

He scored 17 goals last season. Had 40+ pts last two seasons, how many 4th liners can do that?
