If the flames covet hockey smarts they won’t sign Pat Maroon... that would be a worse contract than Brouwer...

Maroon barely broke 40 points playing with Connor Freakin McDavid... not even that good when playing with a 100 point player. Does anyone think he is going to even come close to 40 points or 27 goals playing with the likes of Bennett, Jankowski, Backlund?

Who was Maroon playing with in Jersey, because he had 13 points in 17 games there which is a 63 point pace. So that kind of blows the piggy backing off McDavid theory out of the water doesn't it? He even had his ice time cut drastically in NJ as well.

You would probably play him with Gaudreau to replace Ferlnd and free up Lindholm to form a real second line with Tkachuk?

Honestly depending on term and money, I'd rather have a Maroon than a pure goon. And you know the Flames are looking at toughness.

I don't know. I just have a bad feeling about him. I might be wrong but would rather have some other team take a chance on him.

I think he would make a decent bottom 6 player but definitely not top 6

I'm torn on Maroon. I know he can be effective, but I remember watching some games last year where he took some really dumb and selfish penalties. On the other hand he would replace the grit that Ferland provided. Depends on cost but I think I would be O.K. with signing Maroon.

To me, that is a very small sample size. Seems to be a guy who knows he was going to be a Free Agent and everything clicked with him. Happens all the time when guys join a new team. As I said in my other post, just not a huge fan.

Maroon is 30; was playing with high end talents like McDavid and Hall and is set to get a Brouwer type deal at 3 to 4 years / 3.5 to 4.5 mill per... you think you hate Brouwer now??? Don’t do it Tre.

About to close the door on a four hour flight. Should be some exciting news when I land!

I predict mixture of outrage, defensiveness and exuberant enthusiasm on CP.

With regards to the toughness void, seriously what has Iggy been up to? He had the whole last year off rehabilitating. Was he working out and getting back into shape?

Last we saw of him, he was still able to one time slap shots into top corners and beat up some of the toughest guys in the game.

If he used his time off productively, maybe he is a real option as a power play specialist and enforcer? like Lanny in 89, he doesn't have to play every game.

I wonder where Mike Cammalleri (Tier 2, #38) will end up -- if anywhere.

Strickland has the Flames also interested in Brodziak?

Got to think Brodziak is a backup plan for Ryan.

No thanks on Brodziak too; would rather graduate guys then bring in a 34 year old Center who had a flash in the pan season last year putting up his third highest totals in his career and the most points in a season in 7 seasons. Move along Tre, move along.

Rieder - Yes please
Ryan - Yes please
Brouwer - Move if at all possible please

I don’t want to see another boat anchor of a contract... please.

Problem is there is no centre men to graduate for the Flames. Forwards who are close are all wingers like Mangiapane, Foo, Klimchuk and Dube.

If the Flames don't land A veteran bottom 6 centre who is good on face offs, it's probably back to Shore.

Dube played center in the WHL. Not sure if the the Flames see him more as a winger or center though.

Gawdin also can play center. But who knows if he is close to being a NHL regular.
