For the last 2 years he had NMC, and modified NTC: Player submits an 8 team no trade list

Not sure if posted about already, but pretty much his entire salary is front-loaded signing bonuses.

Smart of the Leafs, not sure NYI could have done quite as much. It's good lockout protection without being obvious about it. Also gives the Leafs a bit of potential to dump him at the end of contract (if he waives NMC) to a budget team

Thanks to the limits on contract length, I don't see how the Leafs ever regret this contract. It'll take Tavares to 34. Iggy was still basically Iggy at 34. Zetterberg and Datsyuk were productive. Bergeron is still productive and he's 32.

Great players don't just fall off cliffs. Tavares isn't who he is because he's a physical freak. He's smarter than almost every other player in the game, and that's never going away.
