I know Maroon's not a scrapper but I would rather the team overspend a little on a guy like him over bringing in a guy likes Reaves. At least he could create a little space middle six as TC said. If he wants to be near his boy then maybe it's not meant to be with the Flames.

Maybe BT has a deal with Buffalo and stone (or someone with trade protection) doesn’t want to waive. Oh the possibilities.

This is a good point but it also comes down to term. I could see Maroon signing for a longer term deal which adds more risk to the deal.

That doesn't make sense if Andersson is ready to come up, we already of 7 NHL D. And if I remember correctly the flames said they were expecting Valimaki to make it to the NHL possibly half way through the season.

More D is what we do not need at this point, unless we have a trade planned for Hamonic, Stone, Kulak, or Andersson

Not the right route to go Tree come on...

Brouwer - Get rid of him somehow
Ryan, Rieder - Check
Reaves - Semi Check depending on term
Top 6 RW/top line proven sniper - Please get this done already.

Wonder if it is Brandon Manning who wants to come back to western Canada. Might also free up another d for a trade.

Maybe Tre is planning to move another D like Stone. A depth defenseman could mean someone in the same role as Bartkowski. A veteran that you can bring in for a game but you dont really want to

Getting a depth Dman makes sense if they are planning to move Stone to open a spot for Andersson and clear some salary/cap space.

If they move Stone their #5 Dman is Kulak, their #6 Dman is Andersson and their #7 Dman is between Hogstrom, Valimaki and Kylington. You don't want Valimaki or Kylington sitting around as a #7 Dman, and we don't know what Hogstrom is in NA yet, so in that scenario it makes a ton of sense to get a cheaper veteran #7 Dman.

I think they'll go after a depth D because I still think they're going to trade someone for a top 6 winger. I don't know why but I still think Brodie is on the block.

I can’t see Brodie being on the block after moving Hamilton unless the Org thinks it is wise to have 2 21 year olds in the top 4 with Hanifin and Andersson? I do not think Stone is an adequate top 4 Dman.

As we seem to discuss every year, the reason you'd go out and get a depth d-man is because you don't want to have a young developing d-man like Andersson or Kylington sitting in the press box for 60+ games out of the season.

If Andersson, Kylington, or Valimaki are in the NHL this year, it will be to play, not to sit. They still need a 7th d-man in the NHL and it doesn't make sense for it to be Stone or Kulak. If need be, you'd trade one of those guys to make room because they have value as everyday NHL d-men.

I don't think they'll make a deal for the sake of making a deal but if they have a chance to get a quality top 6 player in a trade, they're going to have to give value up. I know they've said they want Brodie and Gio together again and that Bennett will get a chance on the top line but if they have to move them, I'm sure they would. I wouldn't be surprised if either/both of Brodie or Bennett were included in a deal for help up front. If they had a deal in place with the sens for Stone or with another team for a good young player that fits, I think those guys are good candidates to move.

Jakub Jerabek would also be an interesting pick up as a depth D.
