Default Flames prospects at the 2021 WJC: Pelletier, Zary (CAN), Wolf (USA), Kuznetzov (RUS)

Hockey Canada just released it's camp roster and no surprise Zary and Pelletier are there. It is both Zary and Pelletier's last years eligible for this tournament.

https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/te...oster-sel-camp

Expecting Nodler and Wolf to get invites to the US camp

Hard to get a read on the Russians. Chechelev might force his way onto the team. I think Kuznetsov has a decent chance. Not too sure about Nikolaev.

Don't expect Feuk to get an invite to Sweden's camp. This is his last year of eligibility.

IMO Zary and Pelletier have a good shot at making the team, but will likely both be placed in Energy line roles. There's a reasonable shot we see them line up together if they have good tryouts.

What my lines/roster would be for Canada (assuming Lafreniere doesnt play):

McMichael-Cozens-Mercer
Perfetti-Byfield-Jarvis
Pelletier-Zary-Foerster
Holloway-Lapierre-Wright
Newhook

Byram-Drysdale
Power-Barron
Harley-Schneider
Guhle

Don't know anything about any of these goalies tbh.

It will be interesting to see if Kuznetsov gets a shot.

Wolf has to be a lock.

The challenge for Zary and Pelletier is that the NHL season won't have started, so guys like Lafreniere, Dach, Cozens and Byfield will all be available.

On the plus side, world junior tournaments where all of the kids are available, are the best!

Though I am not nearly as high on him as many in the prospects voting threads I would have liked to see an invite for Poirier.

Lucas Cormier, drafted 4 spots before him and also an offense-first d-man, did get one.

Cause he’s fully capable of being a 60 point NHL rookie.

I highly doubt Dach will play, he is a big part of the chicago roster now and will likely be in final preparations for the regular season at that point. Lafreniere speculated to be the same. Cozens and Byfield will be the top two centres on the squad imo!

Cormier had close to the same PPG as Poirier last season, but was heavily a positive player while the opposite was true for Poirier. Cormier has also had a rather explosive start to this season (11p in 7g).

I doubt Cormier will make it either but between the two for an invite it is a fairly easy choice, imo.

Assuming there's an NHL season for him to be playing in before January 5, which I wouldn't bet on right now.

During the last lockout, pretty much all of the guys who were 'NHLers' played for TC.

I will be surprised if the same doesn't happen this year (assuming the NHL season doesn't start by Jan 5th)

Im banking on them starting by the 5th. Don't want to picture a reality where that doesnt occur.

Yesterday, the AHL announced that they're targeting a February 5 start date.

I doubt they'll want their players to be in limbo for over a month, so that might be an indication that the NHL won't be starting until mid-January at the earliest.

AHL aiming for Feb 5 as starting date.

Does the WJC get moved back?

The selection Camp schedule looks like it is counting on being the only place that juniors are going to be playing from Nov 17 thru Dec 13

Maybe they can setup bubbles for a WHL and OHL all star team to give the selection camp players some game conditions... as well as getting the rest of the better juniors some playing time games.

This would generate some revenue from TV.
