Nice to see The Last of Us: Part 2 sweep the Golden Joystick awards, particularly because it was voted on by the fans. After the incels review bombed it, I think it cast a lot of doubt into people who were unfamiliar with the franchise.
About time we had some comeuppance for the Gamergate/Maga dorks.
Is three years old too early to start coop gaming? I have a PS4 and Switch. Don't really wanna waste money on Little Big Planet if it's beyond her grasp at this stage.

Attention span is your issue here, you might get them to play for a minute or 2 then they will wander off.

Depends on the kid. My oldest started getting interested in games right when he turned 3 but it was pretty slow at first. When he was 3.5 he really got into it with Mario Odyssey. We've only really got to do meaningful co-op gaming since he turned 5 though.
My middle child is 3.5 and has very passing interest in games, more interested in toys and shows.
I'd say something like Sackboy is well beyond the capabilities of a 3 year old since it takes place in a 3D space and utilizes pretty much the whole controller, and does have some consequences for failure. At that age I'd stick to 2D games that are very simple and don't punish the player at all.

I'd suggest grabbing Rayman Legends for either platform. My 3-year old daughter saw me playing one day and instantly wanted to try it, and she grasped it way faster than the Mario games I had tried to show her before. She can now beat the first few levels by herself. She still can't do much with 3D games, but Astro's Playroom on the PS5 is helping her get better at those

Might want to give the Spyro Remastered trilogy a look too, it's dirt cheap on the PS store right now and the difficulty is very forgiving. No co-op though

It definitely is an excellent game. Many of the criticisms of the game were stupid and I agree with you that it snowballed well past where it should have gone. Definitely a mountain of a mole hill situation.
I still ultimately do think that a slight reordering of the chapters would have really dissipated a ton of the doubt. I kinda wish/hope that such an option becomes available in the future kinda as an unlockable cheat option or something and I'd definitely implement it on another play through.

I don't understand this take. I played the original twice and I never do that unless I really, really enjoyed the game. I legitimately did not enjoy playing this one as I fully agree with one reviewer that aptly called it "Misery Porn". The game itself is very polished as are the production values but it wasn't fun and a chore to play for me. Even if you take out the story's bleak focus on how inherently bad humans are a lot of the gameplay is centered around moving from empty building to empty building searching for items, running into a few zombies and humans, rinse and repeat as there wasn't a lot of variety in the gameplay. If you are going to dismiss my opinion as stupid then I suppose I have to dismiss yours as stupid for liking it.

I don't think he was dismissing your opinion (or my opinion, which matches with yours) as stupid.
I think people are sill stuck on taking the extreme opinions (complaints about a LGBTQ story, about a "trans" character, about certain characters dying, or just tanking it because sky high expectations were not fully met) and suggesting that encompassed most of the criticism. That likely comes from the fact that biased reviewers set that stage early on for people, writing articles suggesting the only people who didn't like the game were bigots or gamergate bros or whatever. When the fact is the vast majority of criticisms have been completely reasonable.
For many people, myself included, it just wasn't very good, or at least not great. There are many valid reasons for why that is, but for me it was technically beautifully and forgettable in almost every other way. The pacing/story was poorly constructed, the gameplay was repetitive and predictable to a fault, the characters and relationships were about as believable as in a B horror movie, and it just wasn't enjoyable.
I don't think people who loved it or wrong, I just find it weird why they dismiss most of the people who didn't love it.

Started gaming with my nephews when they were each about 3. He only like to just wander around and shoot stuff or blow stuff up or mess around. Absolutely zero story progression.
Played mostly Lego games to start.
Now that ones 5 he's much better but still doesn't follow games with a heavy story component.
My other now 8 year old nephew is a ####ing killer. That kid has been playing since he was 3 and now he regularly wastes me playing vs mode on SW BFII. It's infuriating.

I think this video does the best job explaining why I think the game just isn't fun

I'm still going to play TLOU 2 but I had some dumbass game writer spoil part of the story for me.
I was reading an article about how one of the art lead or someone like that was getting threats on Twitter for changing Peter Parker's face for the remastered version of Spider-Man and he decided to mention that one of the voice actors for TLOU 2 had previously received death threats and instead of vaguely saying why he decided to say exactly why.

You should play it. Enough people enjoyed it that there's a chance you will fall into that camp. If you are a fan of the first game at the very least you get to see the direction of where they decided to take the franchise for better or worse.

Yeah, I'm probably getting it for Christmas along with Ghost of Tsushima. If not then I'll just buy it on Boxing Day.
