Well, if it was between Pearson and Martin, Martin is easier to replace. Good starting pitching is the most precious commodity - like a #1 C.

Steep steep price paid by giving up Woods-Richardson. Probably a fair trade all things considered, because of the team control. As for if Pearson is available, I’d personally hope not. On one hand Jays management probably doesn’t see him mentally putting it together. At the baseball level, high prospects seemingly fall off the map every year. I just don’t want to believe in under a year things have gone that badly for him where you’re willing to give up the #1 prospect in Baseball America from a year or so ago. I’m also not convinced this is the year to go all in with the Dodgers pitching getting stronger by the minute.
Edit: Martin? FML. I don’t think I like this at all considering 3B is so hard to get. Lord no.

Martin is the prospect I was most excited to watch develop.
Yikes.
Berrios is great and we are deep at SS throughout the pipeline.
But man. Gotta digest

Seriously? That's an insane price for maybe getting 1 playoff game.
Wow, I guess with the signing of Springer and Semien you don't sit on your hands and wait anymore.
Still seems crazy as I was excited to see Martin eventually get to the bigs.

No no no. This is ridiculous. I was turning the page on Shatkins and this is the price? No way this is the deal. If so fire them immediately.

Jesus.
Why so much?
Berrios only has control for one more year and that year could be a lock out year.
I sure as hell hope Berrios can be effective and extended.
Ouch.

Both? ####, that is a LOT to give up.
Huge message to the team. And the bottom line is that the offense is already as good as any in baseball. They need pitching (and to improve their defense, which will come)

4 of the Jays top 8 prospects are infielders and they have Bichette and Biggio in the bigs. Probably will look to resign Siemen
They most likely think Groshans is closer to MLB to compete in this window so dealt from a position of strength.
15th and 60th ranked prospect in MLB does seem a bit high, but if that is the market for a lot of teams after a potential ace with term

Fans - "Jays, do something, we need pitching!"
Jays - *get another ace"
Fans - "No not that!!"
Lol, there's no winning.

Hey I’m all in favour of going for it when the timing is right.
I’m not sure that from what I’ve seen this year that the timing is right.
Berrios and Hand move the needle significantly, but are they too far back? Best case we make the 1 game wildcard, I think division is too far gone.

Wanting them to do something is a lot different than wanting them to overpay to get something done.
I'm happy we have Berrios, but I think they paid too much. It doesn't have to be one or the other you know.
I just hope they can get Berrios extended and I hope he gets to pitch next year because there isn't a stoppage.
Is that not a reasonable stance?
Also, just because they have an abundance at a certain position doesn't mean they have to give it away either.

Shapiro and Atkins have done a great job of buliding a roster and prospect pool that is deep enough that you have the assets to make a move like this.
Saying they should be fired immediately (or even using the negative Shatkins nickname to start with) is ridiculous.
Huge price to pay but it's for a 27 year old pitcher with one year of control that they may be able to extend. His 2.3 WAR season to date have him as a top 25 pitcher in the MLB.
Anthopoulis gave up more than this for a 38 year old knuckleball pitcher in RA Dickey.

Word on the street is Anthopolous is calling them hypocrites right now. I’m waiting for the media to call this a great deal when it’s severe overpayment. I’m so angry.
