1971 Firechicken Formula 350 bought at Metro Ford for what I think was around $1200 in 1985.

I had graduated high school and was proving to my ol' man that I could actually hold down a job. After watching me for a few months bussing it back and forth, one Saturday he says 'why dont we go look for some wheels for you to get to work in, and I'll loan you the money."

I don't remember the mileage, but I sure do remember being one happy camper. It was kind of a robin's egg blue (like the one below) with twin hood scoops and POWER windows! Needless to say it also went like snot.

I paid it off and of course drove the hell out of it and banged it all up. It wasn't long either before there was serious daylight on both sides inside the trunk above the rear wheels. I'm not sure how it had lasted up until I got it so long in such good shape. Although a beautiful, fast car, they were notorious rust buckets. I think it only lasted less than a year and I was on to the next of many vehicles.

My dad purchased a 76 Ford Capri II brand new. It had a 4 speed manual with a 2.8l V6. Power brakes but no power steering. The advertised "high output heater" wasn't.

We called it the Long-nosed Henry.

I inherited it when I was in high school. My dad removed the catalytic converters, installed a true dual exhaust, headers, after-market suspension, front and rear spoilers. Mechanically, it was bullet-proof. Body? Haha. In the time I owned it, I took it to the body shop twice.

I sold it in 1988 after I bought an '85 Mustang Cobra. I still prefer driving that Capri and I'd buy a Capri if I could ever find one.

^^^First car 1976 Firebird Formula 400 with a rear spoiler. Bought it used in 1980 for $5000. Wish I still had it to rebuild.

This exact colour Chevy Impala 1978. Got it bought for me as a present in 1990 for $1,000. GM had Caprice Classic and Impala models, which looked pretty much the same all around. Calgary Police drove Caprice Classics in late 80's early 90's. The car had so much power, it was a bit scary to drive. And it was a real gas-guzzler. I had it for a few months and traded it with someone for a little Datsun.

A 1960 Volkswagen Beetle . . . . . a poor family’s $100 graduation gift to their son in 1976. It was cream coloured but I don’t think there was a place on it without a rust spot or a dent. My father threw in a blowtorch for good measure, showing me how to heat the oil pan under the car to get it to work in cold weather. Nice. This is a 1960 Volkswagen ad.

Those had to have been the most popular sold car car in Canada during the 80's. They were literally everywhere. Every once in a while I'll still see one.

Mine was a '72 in yellow. Had factory air! Loved this car but it was a ruuuuust bucket. Ran across an old 280Z last summer on the road and couldn't believe how small it seemed compared to today's cars.

Imagine this, but painted banana yellow, with a body kit, fart tip and 15" subs.

Well, this could be a perception. GM had Pontiac Parisienne, and there was another one, I can't recall the name of it right now; they ALL look just about the same; plus taxi companies used them almost exclusively.

My dad brought this car home and said that his boss no longer wanted it and I could have it for $1,000 I drove it while attending college and sold it a year after graduating.

Cheese, that is a 1964. Came out a few months before the Mustang. Push button transmission.

This is the only brochure online for mine. No one romanticizes the Tempo...

I had the two-door model.
