Kal Tire said the puncture was located on a curve inside the tire and that a patch would not hold.
Last time Kal told me that I bought a patch kit from Canadian Tire, did it myself, and the tire was just fine. That was on a low profile tire on a car with decent power too.
Anyone have a good suggestion as to where - besides Porsche Center Calgary - to take a 997 911 to get its windshield replaced?
I'm looking at a car that would need one if I were to buy it and trying to price out non-dealer options, but obviously would want it done right as apparently it's a bit trickier than your average windshield replacement.

Not necessarily windshield related, but Alpine and Riegel tend to be the Porsche indy go-to's in Calgary.

Yep, most people go with Alpine as far as I can tell. Just wasn't sure if there was somewhere that could do OEM glass for less than the $1100 part cost that Porsche wants for it. Their install labour is only $250, which is actually pretty reasonable, it's the glass itself that's expensive. Aftermarket is very cheap, if I buy the car I might have to just try that and if it ends up being not great do OEM for the next time I get a crack in it.

Yeah, the Sekurit glass (which I assume is also used on the 997) is definitely not cheap. You definitely need to get used to pricey parts...the Porsche tax is real, and it's spectacular.
It was with our Volvo, but I've used Windshield Surgeon off of MacLeod. It's next door to what used to be the old Alpine location, and Tunedub is down the block...so I have a feeling they must have had at least some experience with cars of that sort. You may want to give them a call.

Does anyone have a random orbit polisher and a few pads that I could possibly borrow for a weekend? I've been meaning to invest in one for a while now but just haven't gotten around to it. I have some minor swirls from this past winter on the hood and trunk from brushing off snow and I would like to buff them out. I have a variety of compounds in the garage to get the job done but I just don't have a polisher yet.
Anyone ever had a crank pulley bolt that just wont loosen?
Sometimes you'll need a several foot breaker bar or sipe. I've heard tales of guys putting the pipe right underneath the drivers side frame and bumping the starter, make damn sure that bar can't twist and take out something else if you do that.
When in high school a friend and I were helping his dad and his friend install a transmission to an old monte carlo. Neither of us had a clue what we were doing. They had the trans almost mated up to the engine and asked my friend to bump the starter. He turned the engine over and we heard the trans slam up against the floor and some colorful words from underneath. I never knew what happened til I started working on cars a lot more and realized they were trying to get the torque converter to turn and engage properly. It did.
I still think of that anytime I hear someone say to bump the engine for something. It's always a bad idea.
