Brouwer wants to play Spengler cup, so this may be an agreement between the two sides that allows him to skate/practice with an NHL team to get into shape to do so.

This forum is so salty.
I can just picture all the posters with the driveby Neal, etc comments in high school constantly whining about their ex girlfriend and never moving on.

Both played for the Panthers last year and were bad. Both are done as quality NHLers. Nothing to see here.

Are the Blues struggling with depth?
As a depth player I'd wager that Brouwer would still be okay, but hes not going to really be providing a lot of meaningful contributions in the higher-end of the lineup at this point in his career.
We just picked Brouwer up at the wrong part of his career and expected more than he was capable of giving, that doesnt mean that there cant be some contributions that he can make, but if hes at 'replacement' level then they should be blooding some kids in those spots.

I don't know why any NHL team would even consider having these guys around. They are well and truly done and have nothing meaningful left to contribute as players.
There are much better options to sign as depth guys than these versions of McGinn and Brouwer.
Very weird move.
And Chris Stewart is still in the NHL too. Another headscratcher there.

Sorry, been watching too much English soccer over the weekend. It means giving top-level experience to younger players that are likely playing in your farm system as opposed to plugging holes with vets while promising talent plays at lower levels.

I suppose this marks the end of Troy Brouwer's radio broadcast career.

It was the bump he needed to get back in the game!

Do we get a draft pick if this one scores 20 too?

There are exactly two players who left Calgary in the last 10 years that scored 20 goals without scoring that figure prior to leaving. Paul Byron had seasons with 22 and 20 goals in Montreal. We can all agree that he shouldn't have been put on waivers. Chiasson scored 22 last year and McDavid assisted on 9 of them. 8 of his goals were on the power play.
The only three other players that left Calgary in the last 10 years that scored 20 after leaving were Cammalleri, Tanguay, and Iginla. All had multiple seasons of scoring 20+ goals before they left Calgary. Between the 3 of them they had 25 seasons of scoring 20+ goals before leaving Calgary and 5 after leaving.
There is no trend of players leaving Calgary and then scoring 20+ goals on another team.

They have two important regulars out for long term, very recently. These guys can’t replace them, but I guess they come in at the bottom floor and everyone else moves up.

Kind of thought that’s what your farm system is for. Or watching the waiver wire. Or making a trade.
I don’t remember the Calgary Flames ever bringing in a PTO this far into the season. Have they?
Good chance neither guy makes the team.

I guess they don’t think any of their kids are ready. And can’t wait for a waiver claim. Anyway, they are on PTOs, to see if they can be better than a callup. No harm in looking, I guess.

Flames brought in Douglas Murray on a PTO in March 13, 2015.
That was after the trade deadline though, so he wouldn't have been eligible for the playoffs. He also played in Europe after the NHL season started so was subject to waivers if he signed a NHL deal.
