Went to a fan screening of Longlegs last night. I thought it was okay, but it didn't rival Silence of the Lambs as many had suggested. Nic Cage was interesting at the title character, creepy... but still nothing I felt I haven't seen before. I had an unsettled feeling watching the movie, so in a sense it worked, yet I wouldn't say it was a great movie. It went in a direction I didn't expect. I had a hard time connecting to the metaphysical and satanic themes of the movie.

I'd still recommend seeing it, maybe it just wasn't for me. It was given a standing ovation in a packed theatre, so it wasn't met with a negative reaction. Maybe my expectations were too high, I'd like to give it a second chance another day.

A bit late but I watched Independence Day in Orlando on opening night. People cheered and stood up during Bill Pullman's cheese speech. hahahahahahah lame.

I went with my Japanese friends and they had no clue what was going on. USA! USA! USA!

Great story, fantastic action pieces, an awesome score, and an exceptional cast. The wife loved it as well. I think for my money it's my favourite Will Smith movie. It's amazing how many well known actors show up for small performances. Tony Scott was one of a director.

Oh and Gene Hackman always delivers. An underrated actor from his generation.
Many thanks for this.

I decided to watch this again only to realize for what ever reason I never got to see more than the opening scene the first time, what an absolute fantastic movie.

Re-watching some classic Westerns during Stampede Week. Started with The Magnificent Seven from 1960. This is the kind of movie that makes you want to shave with an axe blade - it's so MANLY!

Cat Ballou is a screwball comedy with Jane Fonda avenging her dead father. Lee Marvin is the drunk gunman she hires. Comedy isn't ordinarily what you'd associate Lee Marvin with, but he steals the movie:

The Outlaw Josey Wales. I think of this as Unforgiven in reverse - peaceful farmer turns cold-blooded killer turns peaceful farmer. Lots of beauty in all the ugliness in the story, beautifully shot, filled with memorable lines and a great performance from Chief Dan George. Not just one of my favourite Westerns, but one of my favourite movies period:

Late Night with the Devil was certainly interesting. They definitely nailed the 70's talk show vibe and the ending as it's certainly open to interpretation as there are lots of hints and details provided but you need to be paying attention. Overall a pretty original take on demonic possession that all horror fans should watch.

I went on a "classic" kick recently and watched

Patton
Midnight Express
Princess Bride
Wolf of Wall Street (is it a classic?)
Started to Watch Days of Heaven (my wife was NOT sitting through that so I had to shut it off)
Great Escape had the same result......"SHUT IT OFF"!!

Gonna try "They call me Bruce", one of the greatest karate movies of all time. Exceeded only by its sequel "They Still Call Me Bruce".
