There were several tornadoes that tore through Illinois on Sunday. I was about 20 miles outside of the path. While I didn't get any photos of the storm( was busy not getting blown away by very stong winds), this is what the sky looked like about 10 minutes after the storms:

And hey - free shirts from work today!

We got the "outside" Christmas tree up at work this past week, just over 5,200 lights on it. It ended up being about 27 feet tall. I took a picture with my phone, but the phone picture doesn't do it justice. Going to try to get into work a few minutes early this week and get one with my camera

Inside tree comes tomorrow. yay.

Picked up a new bag and new strap, I think I'm done buying stuff for a while. Well, maybe a macro rail, then I'm done! Love them both so far and highly recommend them.

Tried them out in Goldstream Park today. Salmon run, Seagulls everywhere.

Kerrisdale Cameras in Victoria. If you're in Calgary that probably doesn't help much. I would think most good Camera stores would carry them though. Kerrisdale has outlets on the Island and in Vancouver. Probably a store or three like that in Calgary, if that's where you are. You should be able to go in and try one out with a camera. It really does make wielding a dslr much smoother. Shoulder pad is nice too.

Nice seagull shot, Zevo.

I've got two BlackRapid straps online directly from the manufacturer. Loved it first, but then switched back to a normal padded strap. Nothing wrong with it, I just got irritated by the large camera/lens dangling freely on my side. I've given one away to a friend. Keeping the other one for walking around while traveling with a smaller camera, maybe.

Thanks Captain.

I'll be putting the strap to the test in a few weeks when we go to Israel. Will be taking the camera for long outings and should find out if I really do like it. So far I like the way it hangs and find it quite comfortable, but I've only had it on for short outings so far. I got it and the bag together because I wanted a strap and bag that I could put the camera in the bag while the strap is still on my shoulder. It works really well with the think tank bag.

When walking around a lot, I found the most convenient setup for me to be with a ThinkTank belt pouch, where I keep two lenses (most of the time, 17-35/2.8 and one more - either an 8mm fisheye or a fast wide prime 24/1.4g, depending on the shooting circumstances). I keep the long lens on the camera, most of the time it's 24-70/2.8, because of its universality. Having a camera on a standard padded strap makes it a little easier for me to change lenses on the go. BlackRapid should be OK for a lightweight camera/lens combo, I think.

Forgot to mention, sun is brutal in Israel, hot and bright, casting hard shadows on pretty much everything. You will need polarizers and lens shades on all of your lenses. Variable density filters could also be helpful (but I don't use them normally).

Good tips, thanks. It will be their winter so won't be too hot...average around 15-18 c, perfect temp for me. Have been there before so kind of know what to expect.

Lucky you. I was there in July and thought I'm either gonna die of heat exhaustion or turn into a piece of parchment by sweating out all of my bodily fluids.

Again, very amateurish, my camera isn't fancy.. but I got a few pics at the end of September on a fishing trip I wanted to share.. taken on Mistohay Lake located in the Meadow Lake Provincial Park. Windy all day but she glassed off for a beautiful evening fish with lots of Walters on the line..
