That would be a subpar season for Dougie.

What Calgary may seem to lack in offense up front in the opinion of fans up north they forget they make up for on the back end. A top pairing that can pump out potentially 100 points, then another 60 from the second pairing is a luxury not many teams have.

I love this thread. I spend a lot of my time here. My sis lives in EDM and I razz her all the time about how much of a sh**h*le the place is. I ask her if she's been to the river valley to cure her depression. I once had the misfortune of working in EDM for 6 months over winter - this whole north / south side mentality is odd to say the least. My neff got bottled for no reason after an Oils game. My thinking is that they should quarantine the entire city and close off the Deerfoot (QE2)

Along with Leon Draisaitl, his version of Evgeni Malkin, McDavid will one-up Crosby by capturing the Cup in his third season – after Crosby fell short in Game 6 against the Red Wings.

Let me think about that...

I was reading it looks like Draisaitl is back on the wing of McDavid. so lets look at their lines 2-4

Lucic - RNH - Yamamoto
Caggiula- Strome - Jokinen
Khaira - Letestu - Kassian

That's just straight up terrible, honestly 7 of those 9 probably don't make the Flames.

Good thing Vegas is a expansion team so Edmonton doesn't have the worst bottom 9 in the league.

Of course it looks like they're planning on rolling the top line 25 minutes a night.

That 2nd line isnt complete garbage but that 3rd and 4th are. Those guys are going to get lit up but yeah, they're likely expecting their first line to be playing half the game.

The real issue is that 3rd/4th line need to be shutdown lines so Connor can grab a drink and a breather but they arent shutdown players.

So you're taking players who arent good at what you're asking them to do and banking on them doing it well. Thats not a typical recipe for success.

I would bet that its going to be a lot harder of a 22 to 25 minutes a game for McDavid this year. He basically folded in the playoffs when teams went after him and his only move was to stare at the referee balefully.

He's not going to get the neutral zone wideup that he's used to.

Don't worry. McSissy still has the powerplay to rack up the secondary assists.

Fitting, really.
Edmonton is the Comic-sans of cities. Only useful for jokes or your grandmother, otherwise no good.

It’s much more likely than most are making it out to be. Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me too much.

A key injury or some sort of adversity and I could see it, at the moment the biggest things working in the Oilers' favour is McDavid at the top of his game, Talbot presumably at the top of his game, and lets be honest, a pretty weak Pacific Division.

Resurgent Kings might be canceled out by degenerating Sharks.

They do have to play a couple of months without their top defenceman, but the early months of the season can be a crapshoot anyways.

I have a hard time seeing the Oilers miss, but its far from an impossibility.

Spector will be the guy that won't be able to wait for the Jagr buzz to leave cowtown, moreso than anyone else. It'll be a season of hogging the spotlight from his Disney Princess on ice.

I consciously chose that font when I made that graphic up.

NEW RULE: Every Oiler quote should be in Comic Sans.

I have been struggling with this all off season. Everyone, including Vegas odds makers have them picked as a cup favorite. How have they improved from last year?

If you compare them line by line, and d-pair by d-pair against the Flames, other than the top line; where do the Oilers have the edge?

It is media hype, that is it.

I'd give them the edge in net due to uncertainty, but really, yes, its media hype.

The media picked the Oilers as Cup Favourites in years where they won the draft lottery and were out of the playoffs before Halloween. I dont know why but the media love the Oilers even after the Oilers constantly make fools out of the media.
