Yep, chasing bad pitches, no real approach, looks lost. I have faith he can turn it around.

Man Verlander still so good. Just making guys look silly in some ABs. Varsho was just buckled on that third pitch. (Varsho also sucks)
Knew Friedman would pick that one up:

Verlander getting 3-5 inches off the plate strikes. Bassit getting nothing of the sort, lol.

Can we just stop and appreciate Bassitt a little more? He's lights out again tonight.
If you had to rank the Jays starters right now, I think it would look like this:
Gausman
Bassitt
Kikuchi
Berrios
Manoah
This season is blowing my mind.

Manoah needs to be in the minors finding his way.

I'd have Berrios ahead of the Kooch, but otherwise you're right.

Sure, I've heard the rhetoric on this site a bunch, but I'm not convinced. I think adversity is an important teaching tool for anyone.
Look, I think his fitness is an issue, and combined with the pitching clock, it's affecting his velocity and focus. I don't think he's going to be good this season at any point, but he's going to get a lot of experience "pitching" instead of "throwing".
What I mean by that is he will have to figure out the nuances of command and pitch selection when his stuff isn't great. This is going to be a growth season for him, and as long as you frame it that way as his coach, he'll be fine long term. It won't destroy him, but he will struggle the whole year. It will be the season that defines his career as he learns the game at this level beyond just what his natural abilities have given him.
We'll find out who he is either way next year. Get him fit and see if he adapted and learned anything from this experience. If not? He was never going to be that guy long term anyway.

I love Kikuchi's velocity as a weapon, and demeanor this year. He's so much more confident.

Bassitt with the new baby energy! 7 and 2/3rds on just over 100 pitches of shutout ball. Well done new daddy! Good luck! Get your sleep on the flight home.

That might be the most high leverage pitch clock violation so far!
