Whether it’s a fireable offence or not (albeit an epic blunder) Rota cannot survive this.
He has no choice but to resign.

This country's history includes residential schools, eugenics, internment camps, and genocide. Yeah, I think you're being just a tad overdramatic.

This is so laughable I almost feel sorry for Trudeau.
This would be expected at any given Liberal fundraiser but a standing ovation in Parliament, what a debacle. You can’t make up this ####.

Mostly, I’m just furious that Trudeau made Poilievre applaud a Nazi. This was probably a sick game to force the Conservatives to clap for a Nazi! Sick!

Do you think Trudeau should officially apologize for this?

Apologize??? Like that would even be enough???? We just handed the war to Putin on a silver platter as the entire world turns and says, “Huuuuhhh??? Canada was Nazi ALL ALONG? Get ‘em!!”
This is the darkest period of Canadian history. How am I even going to THINK about Truth and Reconciliation day with the image of all those innocent adults hoodwinked into clapping for a Nazi directly after they were told he was a Nazi??
Apologize? lol get real. We need to shut down every level of Government and hold new elections from the ground up. From school trustee right to the President of the USA, everyone has to pay for this.

Could be worse I suppose. They could trot out some actual nazi and give him a standing applause in parliament.

As of right now will everyone claiming to hate parties with ties to fascists be voting green or NDP next time around? My guess is probably not.

Darn.

Time for JT to call it a day. He was hoping to ride high on the India plot, but he falls down the hill right after. Fault or not.
Its both typical of his buffoonery catching up, and also bad luck. As time goes on every leader runs greater risk of a combination of things catching up.
He’s totally holding in there however. Should be interesting to watch the Liberal implosion ala CPC in early 2000s.

Justin should go for a walk in the dark.

Speaking on Monday, Mr Trudeau also suggested that Russia would use the appearance to push a false narrative on Ukraine.
…
"I think it's going to be really important that all of us push back against Russian disinformation and continue our steadfast unequivocal support for Ukraine," Mr Trudeau said.
|
But don’t mind us, just willingly providing the Russians with ample opportunity for additional misinformation campaigns.
If Trudeau says,
Quote:
"This is something that is deeply embarrassing to the parliament of Canada and by extension to all Canadians."
|
Then by extension, he needs to apologize. It’s embarrassing because it’s regretful, and with regret, you own up to it. Which clearly no one seems to be doing considering Rota has yet to resign while still taking full ‘responsibility’. The lack of accountability is palpable.

Kind of like a boss owning up to hiring a buffoon? Or is this different? Like when Pierre poses with a rando at Stampede it’s telling, but for JT its not his fault. Amirite lefties?

People are turning this into a party and left/right wing debate but the reality is that this shouldn't of happened. Rota is taking the fall but I have a hard time pinning it all on him as there has to be sound background checks on any outsider entering parliament hill and that clearly wasn't done here. I just don't understand how the speaker can invite anyone in there and and the prevailing attitude is "Must be a good dude. It's fine with us.".

Ya, perhaps this needs to get deferred to parliament hill security or something. Have them clear anyone a politician wants to bring in. Clearly whoever should be doing this isn't, and having it be done by whoever gives the invite seems like a bad idea anyway.

Rota can survive this and I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He has been sitting as the Speaker for a long time and watching his Liberal friends survive a multitude of scandals and controversies without any real punishment or resigning. I watch enough CPAC to get the sense that Rota is a good guy and very honourable though and many MPs have talked about his good character this week so I could see him doing the right thing and stepping down but there are probably Liberal operatives coaching him on how to wait this out.

I pretty much agree.
At this point? Invite everyone into the house of Parliament to discuss the issue...weld the doors shut from the outside...light the place on fire and start over.
Just pretend like it never happened.
"Nazi? Dont know what you're talking about. Never happened."

Everyone who was in that room looks so stupid right now that they’d all be better off apologizing and moving on as quickly as possible. The fact that they’re turning into into some political sideshow or the idea that anyone in that room is somehow a victim and deserves reparations for their embarrassment is absurd. The guy was announced as a Nazi and they still clapped for him, including Trudeau, Poilievre, and Zelenskyy.
