Twitter is also not Tesla or Space X. Working at Tesla or Space X... You can say we are doing things at these companies that will better humanity or at minimum lead innovation. Twitter is twitter... The amount of people who are going to view working their as a life's mission isn't going to be as great.

He also doesn't understand what Twitter is. "Twitter is a software and servers company". No, you idiot, software and servers are the necessary evil that SUPPORTS what Twitter is. GM doesn't call themselves a tire company because every vehicle gets 4 of them. Just clueless.

I firmly believe he is tanking Twitter in support of Trump.
Once Twitter goes tits up, where's everyone gonna go?

Probably Mastadon over whatever that Trump-Twitter-ripoff is.
Prediction: Nathan Fielder gathers all of the ex-Twitter employees and creates “Dumb Twitter”.

I figure maybe Musk should concentrate on building cars and evolving those technologies, tank the rest. Too many pokers in the fire.
Tesla is probably in huge trouble as well...he had the lead as is maybe dumb enough to believe that somehow his engineers are smarter that BMW or Mercedes or the Japanese? Good way to loose the lead, just ask Blackberry.

To your point, there's an excellent article on Defector that goes more into this.

A culture and politics so bent out of shape by the worship of wealth will naturally serve the rich and powerful much better than it will serve anyone or anything else. The pressure of that class’s comfort, the figurative weight of them lazing around atop everything, increasingly bears down on everyone, everywhere. Their amusements crowd out anything else, their preferences are reflected blindingly and echoed deafeningly; everyone is more or less left to nod along and either laugh at their jokes or not.

Just out of curiosity, do you need to update the twitter app to see the people who bought their verification? I am seeing people mock those who got it, but I am not seeing any checks on those guys.

Its obviously working at Tesla as well.
Charlie Munger just yesterday called Tesla a small miracle. High praise from a guy who might know a thing or two about business.
The fact that people can't accept this just speaks to their lack of understanding of what is actually takes to run multi-billion dollar companies. Musk actually does.
I do agree that his way of operating probably won't work at a strictly software company like Twitter. Or that he's making good decisions.

What Musk is doing is his take on a corporate turnaround. Nothing really earth-shattering here.
Full-disclosure: I wouldn't want to work for Musk, I think Musk is a bit of a buffoon and has made a lot of needless missteps in this process, however it's all pretty formulaic.
Step 1: Reduce spending and get rid of people who Musk doesn't feel contribute. Honestly his success is down to the 10% to 20% of the team that are stars.
Step 2: See what org can do. He did this with a couple of rapid iterations on useless functionality. He also wanted to see how does product respond with all these staff removed?
Step 3: Set an ambitious target, explain the challenges and what's expected of the team. His email last night.
Step 4: Let anybody who doesn't buy into his vision leave.
Step 5: Work this smaller group hard. They can likely be quicker as less bureaucracy and fewer low performers.
There is risk here, as he will lose some good performers that would be useful. Another issue is equity upside for staff - though I suspect he will find a way to get them some options.

I can accept that Tesla and SpaceX have been wildly successful and still think Musk doesn't know what he's doing with Twitter and has become a self-adoring megalomaniac.

Funny enough I was just thinking this morning how the Twitter rollercoaster is pretty much like a season of Silicon Valley- He's losing money faster than even Erlich could though at this point it seems

TSLA's market cap is $613B
GM's is $57B
I would like my company to buy Royal Bank, but the math isn't my friend.
