Ha, perhaps the reason I've despised Reddit for so long is cause I use their app. It never even occurred to me that there was an alternative.
Oh well, missed that boat.

Is this similar to what Twitter did?
Some embedded tweets still don't render on CP properly.

I don't know how it compares to Twitter.
The CEO did an AMA and it didn't go well.

Reddit is pretty good platform with some good communities, discussions and information but it has always suffered from poor implementation of their site and features and especially their app.

Also the issue that they consistently hire rapists, pedophiles, and pedophile rapists to run the website.

Reddit isn't going anywhere. It's just going to suck for the minority of people who were accessing it using third-party apps.
So don't worry. It'll stay the same bastion of liberal discourse you know and love.

I love Reddit. I’ll just continue using it on my browser. Sucks about the third party app thing though, I feel for people that use those, some of them are great.

This is pretty big, /r/videos will shut itself down by going private tomorrow until reddit reverses the API changes. They're the 10th largest subreddit and a frontpage default. If more big subreddits do that then either reddit is gutted or the admins have to forcibly take them over by removing all of the moderators. Either way things are going to get ugly

I think users will back admins after a few days of not having Reddit. Then you see Mods losing support for indefinite blackouts and as soon as that happens Reddit would take back various subs.
The 2 day black does nothing though it’s a question of the ones going indefinite.
If anything this action will push Reddit to exert more control over mods with revised TOS to force any general strike decisions onto individual users to prevent coordinated action.

Pedophile rapists are the best part of sending pedophiles to jail though.

reddit's entire model though is built on users creating, moderating, and submitting content for free. The fact that they're strongarming those users so hard in an attempt to squeeze as much money from the site as they can is so incredibly scummy

I wouldn’t use the term scummy. When 1/8th of your user base isn’t providing any revenue and costing you money you need to do something.
They are doing it in a terrible manner designed to kill third party apps. If you look at that Apollo thread he says something like 1/4 the price and more time and he would have been reasonably happy. That should be in the realm of negotiation but Reddit appears to be fumbling it.

I use reddit, but don't really have strong feelings one way or the other on this whole thing. Don't care about social media drama one single bit
But I did find r/calgary's post about it just cringeworthy. Basically said they consider themselves too important to participate in the shut down. lol
