My HR person wasn't even our normal HR. It was a temp from outside to do the dirty work. Too bad it wasn't Anna Kendrick from Up in the Air (2009)

Best of luck, I hope it works out for you. Hoping for the best for you.

In terms of the HR thing for a while one of the biggest growth field for HR contracts was in transition assistance. They'd be paid to go into companies be the front face of layoffs, they'd sit down with you let you know you were gone, give you your final pay, give you some transitional advice or services then help you out the door. This way the company never had to feel like they were the bad guy "We're offering Transitions man, transitions"

I tried my own business (failed) then moved into a different field than O&G for the last 4 years, now we've ended up moving into the old offices of one of the big boys that packed up and skipped town. There can be light on the other side of the bitumen.

Cenovus is so weird. Working there must be like a rollercoaster ride.

I think he was referring to the merger with Husky there

Looks like I survived... at least for now. I suspect it will be a tumultuous year as the integration of the 2 companies continues.

Ouch, and doing them virtually a la Oilers no less. Article does not mention how many of these positions are Calgary based and how many field based but almost certainly the vast majority are Calgary based.

With most people working from home it'd be more of a dickbag move to bring them into the office for that, IMO.

Yeah, I keep forgetting about that. Guess I'm used to our particular customers having mostly returned to the office and we're dealing with a lot of in person stuff again.

I guess this avoids the sad sight of seeing hundreds of cabs waiting in front of Husky waiting for people to leave work for the last time.

To those getting laid off today:

I've been where you are - and it sucks. You still have productive value, and you will find something new. Maybe not doing the same thing or making the same money, but it will get brighter than it is today. Its ok to be sad and upset, and it makes sense to take time to grieve this loss.

When I got laid off someone told me to take a week and just think. Instead of doing that I went full tilt into resume/job search/networking. And it was all unproductive, because I wasn't ready. I wish I had taken that advice, so I pass it along now.

I hate to say this, but these people have lasted much longer than many others, so they had been doing pretty good.

This coming from someone who had experienced not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 different layoffs....
