Wow did this update ever mess with my Surface. It applied the updates and seemed fine until I restarted it and then it went into a loop of saying "oops! something went wrong" and kept re-starting over and over until it tried to diagnose and repair itself. Never worked. Had to re-set it which basically re-installed Windows. Not overly impressed. Worked fine on my PC.

So I was reading the privacy statement on Microsoft's page. This seems kind of counter-intuitive:

Instructions for enabling cookies and configuring your browsing history may be available in your browsers settings, privacy, or help documentation.

Easy enough to opt out of using the browser entirely, I guess.

This was with Firefox. I use it for connecting to the Office 365 stuff. I have just never seen a suggestion to turn on cookies and don't delete your history as a means of not getting personalized ads.

That's just absurd.

I don't get any personalized ads, but I am using uBlock Origin in Chrome.

I just read up on this update. As a Surface owner, I'm very excited for the updates that restore some of the things lost with Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 was superior on touch devices in many ways.

I actually like Edge now.

I did have to change Cortana to US English to get it to show up on my lock screen. Anyone else have that problem?

Yeah. That was weird.

The Anniversary Update did some weird stuff to my copy of AVG. It completely corrupted it, slowing down everything on my computer. Last night, my computer was stuck in boot, showing nothing but lines of white text about "Watchdog" (an AVG component) on my screen. After a few tries of holding F8 on boot, I FINALLY got out of it.

Goodbye AVG. Hello again Windows Defender.

What is your Windows 10 Version? (You can tell by opening Settings, pressing System, and then pressing About.) If it's 1511, you don't have the Anniversary Update. If it's 1607, like mine, you have it.

Thanks, it's 1511 so it's strange I'm getting updates but not the new one. I guess I could force it but I'll wait for now.

Credit to Raekwon in the video game thread, more BS apparently:

http://www.pcgamesn.com/how-to-turn-...dvr-windows-10

Last week saw one of Windows 10’s largest updates yet with the 1607 patch, aka the Anniversary Update. Along with the usual sweep of fixes, security updates and rebooting your PC in the middle of a work day, it also auto-enabled Microsoft’s Xbox-powered Shadowplay-like recording software GameDVR. While this is useful if you have both an omni-powered PC and plan on sharing clips quite regularly, it could be causing some major stutter. Particularly affected seem to be Valve’s games.

Glad I'm not the only one. I've been less than impressed with Win10 so far. Especially on my surface.

Thank God I opted not to upgrade the computers at work to Win10.

Yeah. My son's computer updated to 10, and I wasn't impressed with it. Went with Ubuntu as an experiment, and he's not keen on that, even though Minecraft mods are way easier to install.

Wonder if I can find a copy of Windows 7 somewhere still.

I guess I'm the opposite: I love Windows 10, it's my favourite OS since XP. It's just so useful for my daily life.

I have no issues with my day to day use of Windows 10 at all. It's these uncontrolled changes that bother me. I haven't been drastically affected as some here it seems, though.

I'm actually liking windows 10 on PC. I don't use a surface though which it seems is having most of the issues.
