So help out a new guy.

What's the mechanism for resigning your RFA's?

I'm not seeing an menu option on the page for resigning free agents, or making UFA offers. Is it via email?

Just asking for a friend, yeah that's it

you can't do it yet, but yeah, it'll be via mail. First we do RFAs (you don't need cap space to re-sign them), then we do UFAs (you do need cap space to re-sign them), then we bid on remaining UFAs. But it'll all be announced in time by the league with all relevant info.

looking at it, its not that bad

Aberg 1 year .75 same
Landeskog 3 years 7 mil + 1 mil
Tanev 3 year 2.75 +1.25

Appleton 1 year .75 same

Stone 3 year 8 mill +1

Mayfield 2 year 5.25 +1
Claesson 1 year .75 -1.25

Total increase 3 mill
Cap room left should be about a million

Doesn't leave any real room for Ovie and Backlund.

How long can we be over the cap so we can sign and trade for assets?

You can't go over the cap to sign your UFA's, so you would have to clear the space beforehand even if you are trading them.

Gotcha

Could be tough to do in this case. I guess its why I put a team together without Ovie in mind

Scorp, are you actually expecting to sink 9.25M into those 3 UFAs?

definitely not. I'm going to do all I can to sign Francouz and if I have money left over, I'll see if I can manage one of the dmen. likely one UFA signed, two max.

Just remember you have to have cap to sign Francouz.

I know. Clearing $10 million is practically child's play to me at this point...

Word of advice, pay attention to the players age

Landeskog is 27 years old. If you sign him to a 1 year deal, he's a UFA at the end of it and his next contract next year is a UFA grid deal. If you sign him for 3 years he's a UFA at the end of that. not a big deal for star players

but a guy like Dune, if you sign him for 3 years he's a UFA at the end of it. If you sign him for 2 years he's still a RFA and you can sign him for another 3 years following that deal.

The difference of signing him for 3 years or 5 before giving him a UFA grid deal. I can't tell you how many players walk to UFA way too soon because GM's don't manage their years correctly

^^^ Sorry Dunn is not a RFA, the theory applies though to players ages and managing their contract to get the longest amount of years before giving a UFA Grid deal

For those guys I would do all you can to clear space to sign them.
Signing UFAs is risky because they are 3 year 1 way deals, but those are premium guys, and too valuable to let go for nothing.

For me I would look at the following options:

Wave 1 (get whatever you can)
- trading Bonino
- trading Mayfield

Wave 2 (should be able to get something)
- McDonough
- Radulov

Wave 3 (should get good returns plus the cap space)
Stone
JT
Landeskog

I would do what you have to in order to be able to sign those UFAs.

LAndeskog at 27 is a better example. I should sign him for a a year and then give him a max RFA contract after that.

We will set RFA deadline after the draft, and then UFA deadlines will follow probably 1-2 weeks after that, so folks have time.
Again, full RFA instructions will come.

I also would consider not signing someone like Tanev (or trade him) - that gets you 2.75 closer to AO/Backstrom.
Or sign him to a 1 year deal.

Oh man, thanks for this. Beautiful grids.
Very quick math shows I'm not nearly in as bad of a spot as I anticipated.

Oh man this is not going to be easy.

UFAs
Burns - 9.5
Shattenkirk - 7
Marchessault - 6.5

RFAs
Pelech - 4.25
Gudbranson - 2
Fabbri - 1.75

Just have 22 million in Cap space (13.5 being spent on Dead Cap)
And still need to get a goalie (or re-sign Lundqvist)
