Just an FYI everyone - make sure you double check the piping in any home or condo you potentially buy:
Here is a
link with some more information.
Yeah, the information is old, but a lot of condo boards haven't got the news - there isn't a notification process in place for this, so our condo building just found out in May.
Since May the pipe has malfunctioned - a total of 10 incidents - and they are not simply leaks, these are full on explosions. Water spraying out of the dry wall, neighbors being flooded, thousands of dollars in damages, you name it.
We just got slapped - roughly 25k per unit, with a special assessment to replace and repair all of the pipe in the entire condo complex. Starting next year.
While there is a class action suit which has been settled, it pays for almost nothing. It provides barely any money for the leaks and absolutely nothing for 'preventative' nor any real protocol if your whole system is failing like ours. (we can apply at the end of the claims period, 8 yrs, and see what is left in the fund, likely nothing).
I won't name my building as I would rather not dole them out bad press, the complex has been great, with the exception of this manufacturer's faulty product. If you did buy in our complex, we would have to declare it, so don't worry.
Just a PSA - check the piping. Don't buy a unit with Kitec pipe. Ever.
My building is just 9 years old.
