The Thick of It was a great UK show but what's even better is the movie based on that show called "In the Loop." Check it out although it may require multiple viewings; the jokes are pretty rapid-fire and you miss a lot of them initially.
Veep, as an American remake , is very well done and holds the spirit of the original quite well.

I think my favorite joke of the whole series is when they're at the tech firm with Cra'ig and Selina asks her "Smarch" to bring up the website meetmeyer.com (which it changes to meatmeyer.com), and Mike freaks out before anything even loads. It's so quick and subtle, but fits his character so well. Of course he has a mental directory of all the Selina Meyer porn sites
Timely news, then - Thick of It/In the Loop star (and current Doctor Who) Peter Capaldi to direct a couple of episodes of Veep, and he hints at guest-starring as Malcolm Tucker:

Veep a big winner at the Emmy's last night. Really cleaned up.
It wins outstanding comedy series and best writing for a comedy series.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus wins lead actress and Tony Hale wins supporting actor.
Veep is absolutely brilliant television. Well deserving winner.

^A Mike Judge show and Gary Cole in the same post = Time to watch Office Space again!
So Episode 2 may have been the best Veep yet. I barely stoped laughing the entire time. Finding out Ben was getting Amy's "Nightcap?" texts was the perfect nightcap to the episode.
