Not in this case. There is a real power struggle going on between Sullivan and Dubas. This is a tactic Dubas is using to get Sullivan to quit. He wants to fire the whole coaching staff but he can't ax Sullivan because the backlash from vets like Crosby will be huge, same with a lot of the fan base. Sullivan recently told Dubas not to touch his assistant coaches, not surprised that was the first thing he did.

Considering it was Ownership, not Dubas, who gave Sullivan that extension and term...it sort of feels like two kids competing over who dad's favorite is. So yeah, it's basically Succession.

Wasn't Todd a finalist when we hired dollar store Glen?

I always thought the head coach hired/fired their coaching staff.

They do, but I think a lot instances teams have assistants they don't want to lose and nudge a coach to keep.

We fired a bunch of head coaches here and Playfair stayed on. I think Huska went through Peters/Ward/Sutter.

coaches get fired, its not to say he's a bad coach. Probably wasn't his idea to spend futures on EK.

"Dubas" is 2 letters short of an accurate description of his work as a gm. Guy can't build a team at all, even though he starts with world class elite players.

The Athletic article that came out last year was pretty damning of Sullivan and how he and the players got together to oust Hextall and Burke.

Personally, I almost never take the executive's side as they're almost always the ones who are doing the shadiest crap. But let's be honest, the Pittsburgh roster has been getting old for ages now and for any coach to want to keep going for it for a few core players, is playing an awfully selfish game. It's about the team, and having a hope and dream isn't a plan. To kybosh plans and just want to do it your way is terrible. Not sure why anyone would want Sullivan if he'd be creating his own coup?

I think he was linked to the Flames a couple of times.

Wasn’t Reirden in charge of their #### powerplay? If so, not a big surprise.
