Zero surprise. Arbitrator will probably have to rule. Mango wants every penny

Not a surprise.
Virtanen is interesting though, thought the Canucks wanted to move on. Must be trying for a trade

I did hear on TSN that the arbitrators will not take into account lost revenue from Covid or anything like that on their rulings.

Hopefully the Flames can agree to a long-term deal with this guy

remember that by filing for arbitration that Mangiapane guarantees that he will have a contract done in the next few weeks instead of just before training camp like last season

Tampa has no arbitration cases, thus no 2nd buyout window.

If by long-term you mean 2 years, I agree.

Then I don't agree. Too much risk. You don't give out long-term deals based on 1 decent season.

I was just wondering about that.
It puts some pressure on the Flames to get a deal done before his case is heard. Arbitration is fairly limited when it comes to contract structure and given the current situation, teams are going to prefer deals that are not front loaded next season.
I predict there will be more teams walking away from decisions this year than what is usual.

According to CapFriendly Colorado had two other guys eligible. I guess they didn’t file? Is that because they are almost at a signed deal already?

That's helpful. Treliving definitely gets team-friendly contracts with RFAs but he does tend to drag his feet and play hardball. Not only does Mangiapane have a right to arbitration, it's well-justified and will be to the team's benefit to have it resolved early.

I would love us to go the Nashville route with Mangi. See what he needs to sign for 7 years, 3.75m?

Not everyone files and those who do are no longer eligible for offer sheets.

How is he getting out? His numbers aren't going to get him a big contract. It's stranger to me that they even qualified him, unless they're just trying to be jerks, which I can see Lamoriello doing.

3 years takes him right to UFA, so the Flames will want either a 2 year deal or something longer. The money needed for something longer is probably not practical with the current cap situation, so I'm guessing he'll sign a 2 year deal somewhere around the same money as Bennett.

I have a suspicion that Ryan Pulock (Isles), MacKenzie Weegar (Panthers), and Jake Virtanen (Canucks) will be traded after the arbitrator rules or they sign their deal. I think the player no longer fits the team's plans long term and they won't want to pay those dollars.
