That actually isn't a bad idea. Make it a double header so there's full national interest with two storied rivalries.

If the all Canadian division is going to be a thing. It would make sense too. Calgary is the bubble for the first part (Edmonton will be hosting the world juniors at this time)

I'll coincidentally be hiking in that area that day. Probably to the Devil's Thumb, for a nice bird's eye view...of the lake.

If Calgary is the home team, Lake Louise would be awesome.
If Edmonton is the home team, then a tailing pond in central Alberta would work.

Oh yeah, that's a much better idea. Could do a triple header as well with Vancouver vs. Winnipeg though then you're probably really running into hotel room problems.
I would obviously prefer to see Calgary vs. Edmonton if it was just one game but was thinking Toronto to try and capture interest from the most populous part of the country.

A lot of outdoor games would be a cool way to go through this season. Seems they'd be a LOT easier to plan without having to worry about places that have the capacity to fill with fans, since there won't be anyway.
Some games in the mountains would be awesome

Go for a two day event.
Saturday:
G1. Jets-Canucks
G2. Sens-Habs
G3. Flames-Leafs
Sunday:
G1. Sens-Jets
G2. Leafs-Habs
G3. Flames-Canucks

According to an industry source who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, Alberta’s Lake Louise — with its famous Rocky Mountain backdrop — has been discussed internally as a possible location for opening day.

it obviously is an oilers 'home game'

Ambitious. Never hiked it in winter. I’m thinking there will be controlled access up the hill from the village.

Fantastic idea - probably the most iconic location for an outdoor game of ice hockey on the planet.
As for who would play, a BOA seems obvious at first, but I don't think that generates enough interest outside of Alberta. Calgary is the obvious host. And Lake Louise is between CGY and VAN, not CGY and EDM. Playing VAN would at least include a 2nd province.
Or they go national, and have MON or TOR as the the opponent.
Regardless, fracking brilliant idea!

Wow. This would actually be so awesome. I wish it was possible in a year with fans though, but even then, watching this on tv would be awesome

If it's off the lake, it'll be awesome.
If it's actually ON the lake and they play on lake ice, that would just be... magical.
Just not sure the Park would allow them to paint lake ice white and paint sponsors onto the ice. Boards and glass I think would be nbd.

No boards, glasss or players boxes. Just push the snow up like clearing a pond, put wooden benches in the snow banks and play like shinny. Imagine hitting someone OVER the snow bank, it would be awesome.

Parks Canada shouldn’t stand in the way if the NHL commits to maintain a small footprint. They do the World Cup downhill at the Lake Louise ski hill after all, so a major event isn’t an automatic no.
