Prior to his injury he had 18 goals and 31 assists for 49 points in 26 games prior to his concussion in December. At that time I think he was second to only Lafreniere in points in the QMJHL.

After the return from the break he struggled a little bit (9 points in 13 games post injury) and was finding his game when the season was suspended (24 points in 18 games)

If Pelletier doesn't get hurt then he's potentially on the WJC team and would have seen a big step in his production YoY. His pace at the time of the injury was 122 points which would have seen a nice steady production for a junior player (61 > 89 > 122), even if he was unlikely to keep up the pace of his blistering start all year it's likely he ends up around 100-110 points which still would have been good progression, especially considering he was very young for the 2019 draft.
It will be interesting to see what happens with WJC this year given their start date is only ten days (range) before the NHL season is supposed to open.

If they conflict we probably don't see the Lafreniere's and Byfields going, we may not see them even if they don't conflict if the NHL teams want them in NHL camps and not in a bubble in Edmonton.

If that's the case I've seen mention of both Pelletier and Zary on Team Canada which would be a treat.

Hope it goes better than the Tkaczuk / Fata 1998 WJC though!

Looking at Pelletier and he has really good stats when looking at his age and production in the QMJHL.

U-17 Production the last 10 years

1) Mackinnon: 1.34
2) Lafreniere: 1.33
3) Duclair: 1.05
4) Morand: 1.04
5) Pelletier: 1.02

U-18 Production the Last 10 years

1) Drouin: 2.14
2) Lafreniere: 1.72
3) Mackinnon: 1.70
4) Ehlers: 1.65
5) Dubois: 1.60
6) Huberdeau: 1.57
7) Hischier: 1.51
8) Bourque: 1.45
9) Grigorenko: 1.44
10) Beauvillier: 1.40
11) Pelletier: 1.37

U19 Production Last 10 Years

1) Drouin: 2.35
2) Lafreniere: 2.15
3) Ehlers: 1,96
4) Huberdeau: 1.95
5) Garland: 1.93
6) Veleno: 1.76
7) Beauvillier: 1.68

Before his injury he was on pace for 1.88 pts per game which would have ranked very highly as well, Pelletier ended at 1.44 PPG after struggling with injuries. So even if you split the difference there and say it's likely he could have been in the 1.66 range then he's in pretty good company.

Honestly if Pelletier can be a player at the level of Beauvillier I would be stoked.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised. Canada tends to lean towards guys that played for them in past tournaments for bubble positions and both Zary and Pelletier played on the U-18 WJC team together, and Pelletier played in the Hlinka. Only barrier will be it's a really, really deep forward group with a couple of returning forwards.

Well, now I am irrationally excited about the potential of seeing Pelletier and Zary on the same line in red this calendar year!!

With no rookie camp this year, it looks like the Flames invited the 2 Canadians who were drafted (who aren't playing in the Q right now) to Calgary to work out with the guys who are in town (Gio, Andersson, Lucic, and Dube are mentioned) and have a look around the city...

I don't really get the Emile Poirier comparisons with Pelletier.

Oh wait, I do. Both very good prospects with speed, play physical, play 200ft games, are very talented and play with an edge. Both have non-stop motors. Both are damn fine prospects IMO.

Poirier's career was derailed for personal reasons. Otherwise, Pelletier is a shorter, better passing, slightly slower (but still great skater) Poirier.

Poirier I feel would have been on the Flames had he not developed a personal issue there. He was a fantastic prospect. I liked him a lot more than Klimchuk personally. There were so many holes that Poirier I felt could contribute on the team - PK (he had more PK short handed goals than PP goals in his D+1 year if I am not mistaken), good shooter, speedy, physical, great shot. He was a well-rounded prospect that was climbing quickly in the rankings that year, and was a good pick.

To add more evidence - 55 games 42 points. That was Poirier's stat line in his rookie season in the AHL. Second on the team in points (by a single point from the leader) and in 12 less games.

Kid was an awesome pick, and a stud of a prospect. It was his personal demons that made him fizzle out. I hope Pelletier's development goes as well as Poiriers - minus the personal issues of course.

If Zary is in town training you gotta think a ELC is going to happen in the coming days.
