Vegas is and has become the market where the team will say we will pay you a reasonable, market offer and the city/team/lifestyle will speak for it's self. The perks. This Vegas scenario will continue to be a thorn in the side for a lot of teams. Players want to be there, their families want to be there, the wives and the girlfriends love it. The practice/training facility is literally 5 minutes from where virtually all the players live. It was designed like that. Friends and family of the players and their spouses will want to come and visit and stay for longer periods of time, making transitions and moving scenarios easier. The airport is close.
This is all on top of weather, taxes, lifestyles, the women (let's be real for the male players) and entertainment options. Hanafin signed so quickly because now that he saw what it's like there, this is pretty good! He and his wife are expecting a baby soon and really wanted to be on the east coast, closer to family. That kinda took a back step in some ways with Vegas.

Where do they mostly live? I know there's a bunch of nice communities.

Sorry if already said but Friedman on his pod just said Hanifin and Tampa were “pretty far along on a contract extension and nothing illegal there”. So did Calgary give permission for them to talk to Tampa?

I would say yes. Flames were trying to do a sign and trade to get back best return . My guess Tampa thought they wouldn’t have to give much up for him since hanifin had a lot of leverage and wanted to be in Tampa at the time.

I am not a Las Vegas real estate expert but it's suppose to be the nicest area in the LV metro area. Summerlin is the name of the area. A bunch of articles I have read talk about one of the best things being how close this facility is to the players, a 5 min drive for most. The level of time saving for players in major US markets is huge

It’s a unique nhl issue, the superstars in no other league can go and hide somehow, except this league.

3 of the bottom 10 attendance figures of the league are in Canada.
I think Canadians overrate or exaggerate us canadians love of the game or how we "fill" buildings.
Winnipeg is probably going to lose their team again.

And 3 of the top 5 revenue teams in the league last year were Canadian.

TV revenue is a drop in the bucket for the NHL. The Canadian owners themselves foolishly agreed to share Canadian network revenue with American owners, because they had dollar signs in their eyes and wanted a share of the imagined billions from U.S. TV rights.

This is the only major league with more than one team in Canada. If you want to fix the problem, maybe the easiest way is to fold all the Canadian teams.
