Rangers acquire Jacob Trouba from the Jets for Neal Pionk and 20th OA

OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired defenseman Jacob Trouba from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Neal Pionk and the 20th overall pick in the 2019 #NHLDraft (originally from WPG).

20th OA was originally the Jets 1st round pick that they sent over in the Hayes trade

Trouba gets dealt without an extension in place but the Rangers will want to take care of that as soon as possible, no question

Seems like fair value to me for both sides, especially if the Rangers can sign Trouba (if he re signs big win for them)
Pionk is underrated

This is actually fun to see the Rangers start a real rebuild. They could be good really soon if they keep acquiring draft picks and good players. Huge advantage with everyone wanting to play there.
Unlike Calgary, Edmonton etc, the Rangers only have to build 80% of contender the other 20% will gladly sign there to shore up the build.

I think the Jets prioritized getting Pionk. RD that can play 20+ minutes a night. Helps fill the holes left by Trouba and Myers leaving.

Trouba is a big guy, can skate, is physical, has a big shot. He put up 50 points this season.

#nhljets got back the exact first-round pick they sent to #NYR for Kevin Hayes on Deadline Day. They were exploring returns for Trouba that included unloading Mathieu Perreault's contract, but went with the first rounder instead.

Yet another player who went to arbitration being moved before the end of the awarded contract.
Four players went through the arbitration process last year, and three are now on new teams (Kulak, Trouba, and Gemel Smith). We'll see if the Sens keep Ceci or if he'll make it 4 for 4.
