[News] With the 122nd OA pick Flames select C Milos Roman

I like this pick. Looking at the highlight package, it looks like this guy has pretty good vision and hockey IQ. He goes to the right areas for goals and made some great passes for assists. He centered the top line this year with the Giants and I think he can take a huge step forward offensively next year, like Phillips, Joly, Ruzicka etc. in their draft+1 years.

I'll keep my eye on this guy next year. He's my pick for being our fourth round gem.

I like taking chances on guys that were hurt for a big chunk of the season for mid to late draft picks. Decent chance you are getting a guy that would have gone much higher if healthy all season.

they had a couple of opportunites to trade next year's picks for picks this year but didn't want to do it.
however they had 2 4ths next year
our Western guys, Rob Sumner specificaly and Darren Kruger love this kid
he is a heart and soul type player
he is a playmaker, smart player but needs to work on his skating
he has a chance to be captain next year in vancouver
played in the WJC for Slovakia this year
well rounded kid
real big heart and leadership guy with intangibles off the charts

Probably the Flames pick I know the most about. Friends who scout the Dub like him, probably would've gone higher if not for his mid-season ankle injury. Great offensive mind, defense is coming along.

Ollas-Mattson.

Unless I'm missing someone, that's actually piss-poor quantity compared to most other teams, especially if Rasmus graduates next season. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the quality.

It's a little surprising Treliving didn't take a D, especially considering how he always says you can never have enough of them. Mind you, he also says that about centres & goalies...

Anyhow, Milos Roman seems like a good value pick for a late 4th.

If you look at it another way, they also added Hanifin who is in the same age range as that group. So you have Valimaki, Hanifin, Andersson and Kylington all coming up around the same time with Brodie, Stone and Hamonic still only 28. Add in Kulak at 24 and you have pretty good depth overall. I think that's what they look at - not just prospect depth. They will likely add a couple next at next year's draft so that they don't have prospects coming up around the same time.

To be fair a lot of people do stuff like this. Scorp may not really have been thinking about his response and it was more reactionary. Still he is a valued poster and not a troll. Home run of a pick by the Flames at 122. As with any player taken at this spot, he's a project, but I had him ranked in my top 75...so to get him there is a terrific job in my opinion. Not sold he makes it as a centre, but the transition to wing won't be a difficult one for a player who thinks the game as he does. Good two-way player with potential to add more skill as he transitions to pro and his IQ evolves organically.

Milos Roman is getting some nice reviews of his performance during the recent WHL Final against Prince Albert. Here's one from Dobber Prospects.

Milos Roman – Flames 4th rounder scored both goals for the Giants. Great skating ability on display. Has very real breakaway speed. I question his offensive upside at the next level, but his two-step acceleration and top-end gear should give him a real chance to be an energy player.
