They gave us the all-clear about 20 minutes ago or so. 4 cop cars showed up, but it seems like they knew pretty quickly that it was a false alarm.

I can't imagine what those folks in Austin are going through. It's like that random DC Sniper all over again.

I'm surprised that there's not a thread following it. From my understanding three of the bombs were pretty simple, the fourth triggered by a trip wire.

Who is in that building? Want to say MNP has a few floors but no one has a reason to bomb a bunch of farmers.

Simplicity is relative and doesn't quite tell the entire story. A simple bomb may be chosen to minimize exposure to FBI, it certainly does not mean the person who built the bomb cannot build something more complex or deadly. The toughest part I would think is bomb placement without getting caught.
I worked as an explosive blaster for several years, I am definitely no expert, but always pay extra attention when stories like this come out. Anyone can make a bomb, but you have to have an understanding of explosives first, and the internet is obviously the easiest way to learn, which leaves a trail. There are lots of books as well, and if purchased a long time ago will make things more difficult. Physical evidence of a rather unique component of the bomb would narrow down who researched, bought components for or built the bomb. I think the way most of these guys get caught is they opened their mouth to their grievance way before the bombs were even thought of. Someone who knows has probably told the FBI, but there are thousands of these losers out there, and they have to sift through each one.
It is way more difficult to move a bomb around safely than it is to build the bomb itself. Typically, form what I know, the explosive device would be separated from the blasting cap, and would only be put together on the site the bomb was placed. Hopefully a random video captured the guy driving around trying to find the right spot to setup the bomb. A trip wire is also very sketchy unless the guy had access to military supplies. If the guy wanted to kill more, he could. Seems like he is up to something else.

Good news perhaps?
Quote:
The guy who police believe was behind the recent bombings in Austin that killed two people and injured four others blew himself up with an explosive device as authorities closed in early this morning. Police had zeroed in on the suspect and traced him to a motel in Round Rock. He took off in his car, drove into a ditch, and as SWAT team members approached, apparently detonated a bomb that killed him. No ID yet other than a 24-year-old white man, and no motive. Authorities warn that they don't know if there still are package bombs out there, or if he had an accomplice who is still at large.

Threads aren't cheap!
I am surprised that nobody has started a thread, and then after enough people posted in it, renamed it to the "Only post in here if you're a mouth-breathing struggler" or something.
