I think the biggest thing has to be player development. That's a tall order though. It seems like every player who left has been upset with management over the past few seasons. And these are respected players. So in a world where there are demands for winning, how do they say, wins are great, but player development is much more important? And how do you keep the players confidence high if you don't win? It's the mentor-student relationship is all I can think of with more attention to each player individually, rather than classic management of just pushing. I don't have much confidence management has that in them innately to be fostering, though that's simply based on what I've observed.

Maybe this is why teams were so tight with their dollars last year during free agency, knowing and planning for this years crop. We certainly aren’t seeing the same hesitation and delays this time around. 3 mega deals in 3 days.

The Angels now have 140 million tied up in Trout, Rendon, Pujols, Upton, and Simmons for the next 2 years. That’s nuts. A lot of money for a team destined for 80 wins again.

As a Nats fan, sad to see Rendon go. But jeez, Rendon solves none of the Angels problems. Angels may have the most WAR, and 1-2 in MVP voting and not play a meaningful game past August for the next few years.

That Pujols contract is absolutely horrendous for the next two years. Full no trade and 10M personal services payout when he's done playing, on top of it all, just to make sure he doesn't have to move his family. Giving a 10yr contract to a 30 year old is not a good idea.
I just had to add in, that the Marlins payroll is under 24M this year (before arb), if you don't count 10M retained in trade. Pujols is making 29M.
This league needs to negotiate a cap floor. And sell the Marlins to Montreal.

$814M worth of contracts in 3 days for Scott Boras.
He still has a couple other big free agents too, including Ryu, Keuchel, and Castellanos.
So with those three it’s pretty much guaranteed he negotiates over $1B in contracts this offseason
Edit: Moustakas is his client too and he signed a $64M deal last week, so that’s $878M already for Boras in the month of December.

His office is a lot like the Randy Marsh it was a ghost scene from South park these days.

This headline makes me laugh out loud. "Everything" is clearly quite subjective and had a couple large asterisks beside it.

Here is the smartest move for the Jays to consider. Price + Benintendi + 5M relief for 3 years.
Solves the weak outfield problem over the duration of the 'window' of the infield players. The Jays can also absorb that contract for three years, while slotting Price as the #1 pitcher year one, and the #5 pitcher year three. Barring time off for his inevitable yearly injuries.
Would the Red Sox trade inside their own division?
Quote:
Substituting Benintendi provides eight or nine wins over the next three years with around $25 million in total salary over the next three seasons. Benintendi’s value then sits in the $50 million range above his expected pay. Packaging Benintendi with Price and maybe $5 million per year is pretty close to a fair deal.

Mets sign Rick Porcello and Micheal Wacha on one year 'show me' deals. They are looking to shore up their 5 and 6 spots in the rotation.

I feel like they only make that trade to move Benintendi within the division as a last resort though.
And it makes more sense for Boston to wait until after Ryu and Keuchel sign.
Price is 34 years old and will have 3 years and $32M per year left on that deal.
If Ryu goes out at the age of 33 and gets 3 years or more at $25M to $30M per year then it suddenly doesn't make Price look as bad. And possibly some of the other runner ups from that move become options for the Red Sox.

This is all assuming Price is a zero War player.
I don’t think there is any chance Sox include Benny in a deal

Fangraphs base their projections off of WAR. They are usually pretty close to reality on these things.

Apparently the Dodgers have had little to contact with Ryu or his camp this off season.
Makes you wonder why.

Lol so much for the Jays being frontrunners for Tsutsugo, he's signed with the Rays instead.
Can't even get 2nd tier Japanese free agents to sign in Toronto

That is disappointing. 2 years/6M per.
It's possible that he just didn't want to sign in Toronto. It's also possible that the Jays didn't want to spring for 7M per.

They'd have had to go higher then 7m (Florida has no state tax ). The Jays would have to give him around 8M to overcome the lack of state income tax in Florida (and that assumes he'd value a marginal upgrade on salary over the nicer weather and more competitive team). let's say he wants 9 in T.O. (which would give him about an extra 500K per year). 9M x 2Y x 1.20 (20% posting fee to his Nippon team). Means a total payroll commitment of $21,600,000.00.
I'd still do it (depending on what the market has for slugging 1st baseman).
