"bettersurf" malware

I have adblock running on Chrome, yet somehow the "bettersurf" extension managed to install itself. I looked it up on Google, then quickly disabled it and put it in the trash. Does anyone know how something like this may have shown up? I wonder if its really gone. My antivirus software saw nothing...
