Icon48 UPD: Lake Louise out as possible outdoor game. NHL to explore other scenic locations

https://www.thestar.com/sports/hocke...ke-louise.html

Quote:
The NHL has mandated a flat salary cap. But it’s also thinking of mountains.

With the off-season in full swing after the two-day draft and Friday’s opening of free agency, the league is already turning its attention to next season, with a tentative start date of Jan. 1.

According to an industry source who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, Alberta’s Lake Louise — with its famous Rocky Mountain backdrop — has been discussed internally as a possible location for opening day.

The discussions are in the preliminary stage and the Lake Louise outdoor game scenario, while postcard beautiful, would face several hurdles, starting with the state of the COVID-19 pandemic when play resumes. It’s also a popular destination even in troubled times, which could make booking hotels in the area around Christmastime a challenge.

That'd be awesome. Especially since I could drive over there.

It’s so Calgary for this to be the first reaction to The idea of a season opening showcase outdoor game at Lake Louise.

I'd be surprised if Parks Canada allowed it.

I know LL was mentioned in the previous thread about when the season could resume, but if the NHL is actually considering doing that, that would be so ####ing sick.

I think the idea of Lake Louise is only viable because it would be done without fans in the stands which would probably fit with the COVID restrictions.

If you don't have to worry about accommodating large crowds, that is precisely where such a game should be held. This would be amazing.

This is like watching someone temporarily forget about COVID and then remember it and see it come crashing down.

Don’t usually get to watch it crush someone’s dreams like that in real time.

Not sure why anybody would not like the idea? I think it would look great on tv. Their going to have to think outside the box to get viewership for regular season games on tv. This is a good one.

But... where would they actually... yknow... play it? Like, where specifically in Lake Louise?

It would be cool. Just seems cart before the horse for this season. I would 100% watch it though. Hope for Battle of Alberta.
