Haha yeah, it's his hair that gets me. He wants a mullet but all he can grow is a greasy birds nest. It's like Thornton's beard, I feel like can almost smell it.

ok I can see that. The one standing in the corner has his arm duplicated to make it look like the Ref is another player.
I least I thought I saw 3 guys in the corner.
Edit or just two- still looks off. But whatever. I just see it weird

David Staples...the prototype for all middle aged men in the Edmonton area, no self reflection, complete ignorance of life outside of his bubble, unbelievably confident, and yet incredibly insecure.

He's everything we should all wake up, look in the mirror and vow not to be...even his private minor hockey league coaches track suit. Gotta love it.

Staples: How dare this reporter say what he thinks about McDavid’s effect on his teammates.

Also Staples: Here’s what I think McDavid’s teammates think of him.

His take is also bad because I’d bet McDavid’s Solo dashes up the ice with gout the rest of his line are way less appreciated than, say, if he backchecked really hard on a shift. Players may envy and appreciate his talent. But they would respect hard work.

The post citing the documentary as proof of his divine awesomeness was particularly entertaining

scott kosman @humantorch: “He doesn’t inspire others” he says of the man that came back from a potentially career-ending injury so amazing that they made a documentary about it.

Another documentary coming as well, no doubt!

A typo I know, but who can say that it isn’t true? It is medical condition #43.

They have credibility in some regard in his mind because Staples has yet to block them on Twitter. They probably also appear on that list of approved posters that were part of the HF Oiler fan love fest fiasco a few years back.

Again, after all the lead up and all the stats and analysis leading up to this play in series that I am sure he did, that all goes out the window after an actual game is played, and the game shan’t be discussed analyzed or Oilers on ice woes categorized, instead, the priority will be writing a much more important injustice piece where he has to defend McDavid honor from another teams beat reporter. And Dater isn’t even that anymore.

Have we ever seen a Flames scribe do this?

And if past history is anything, he will write a follow up one to come saying that the league needs to market McDavid more but it’s just proof the league will just take and take from the Oilers (this bubble thing will turn into the Oilers, not the city or the province, doing the NHL a massive favour) but never give back.

With Staples yesterday, I questioned his judgement and called his obsession with MT and his fawning over the Oilers super creepy, and he hasn't blocked me yet.

He keeps doing the defense that he's just a fan and a blogger, but when he's linking himself to the Edmonton Journal, he's a journalist and in my mind really unprofessional.

I don't know whether the rumors are true that he gets some kind of comp from the Oilers, but if he is it explains much.

I just got back from Edmonton last night – visiting the in-laws.

One of them has astroturf in his back yard instead of real grass.

There are, however, real weeds growing on the astroturf.

Another Edmonton Moment™ brought to you by Staples, the weed on the astroturf of Edmonton sports journalism.

You can take the grass out of Edmonton, but you can’t take the Edmonton out of the grass.
