Dont forget that not only did the jets go 0/7 on the power play they also gave up a shortie. That was a huge goal by Reider and by far his best and most important one in Flames silks.

Great write-up, Bingo.

Quote:
Five on five the Jets had 8 of the 10 five on five high danger scoring chances in the game
This is another example of where these stats don't jive at all with what I watched. Two high danger scoring chances for the Flames? That didn't sound right to me, so I watched the game again and counted:

1) Lucic breakaway, 6 minutes in
2) Mangiapane shot wide short side from inside the dot (maybe debatable), 11 minute mark
3) Bennett, rebound shot from alone in front (top of crease), 15 minute mark
Also, Giordano had one 4 on 4 but I guess the stat is 5 on 5 only

Second period:
4) Dube shot from 10', 5 minute mark
5) Mangiapane from 10', same shift
6) Dube from inside the circle, same shift
7) Reider, partial breakaway, shot blocked, resulted in PP, 6 minutes in
8) Monahan shot on net, puck was on the dot when he shot (he was inside the dot), 10 minutes in
9) Bennett shot from the slot, blocked by defenseman, 11 minutes in
10) Lindholm on the 5 on 2, shoots from the slot, (maybe inches outside the top of the circles though), 15 minutes in

Third period:
11) Bennett backhand from right in front, blocked by defenseman, 10 minutes in
12) Mangiapane empty net goal (doesn't count as 5 on 5?)

So I have a couple questions:
Does this stat count shot attempts, or only shots on goal?
Is it based on the location of the puck or the shooter (there was one of each last night where the shooter was inside homeplate, but not the puck, and vise versa)

Regardless, suggesting the Flames had 2 high danger chances in the game, when Lucic had the breakaway and Bennett had the rebound from the top of the crease, just in the first period, makes this stat hard to swallow

(referring to the stats here, not trying to shoot the messenger)

The Flames looked great this game start to finish.

If you want to find a potential storm cloud is that this team is on quite a run of being unable to produce 5on5 in the playoffs. It ultimately has been their undoing in the last 3 series, none of which were close.

So while Flames should have a lot of confidence coming out of this game, that’s still a dragon they need to slay. But if they continue playing like they did game 1, I’d expect some 5on5 offense coming soon.
