What's this now? I never heard that part before...

Nevermind found it.

"Mark Spector of Sportsnet adds: “Two conditions have to be met for Oilers to send 3rd round pick to Calgary – James Neal has to record at least 21 goals and Lucic scores at least 10 fewer goals than Neal.”"

Neal claims last year was a hiccup.

I'd suggest it was more of a vurp.

Edmonton is no good, but I'll be shocked if we don't get their conditional pick.

Neal is a good bet to bounce back, but even a repeat of last season's dismal performance would likely get him 2nd line minutes and regular power play rotation in Edmonton.

It'd be great if only we won. Like, Lucic outscores Neal. That's a win for me. Neal, who is just as poor a fit with Connor McDavid as Lucic.

How good do we think Ryan Nugent-Hopkins really is? If he's good enough to turn Neal into a 20G forward again, he's probably going to get $9M somewhere.

I think Neal will get more than 20 goals this year, yet manage to have the worst +/- of his career.
I guess what I'm saying is, as an Oiler fan, be careful what you wish for.

I think you’re right, but his highlights are going to look like Putin’s.

I hope neal can somehow pull them away from another high level draft pick I hate seeing all these high draft picks go there to get ruined

It would be awesome if we were able to rest lucic for the playoffs and therefore protect the 10 goal gap.

I would be gobsmacked if we do. He's 32 and was by far the worst flame last year, to expect him to go to a significantly worse team and somehow excel is bat#### crazy.

He was slow as molasses last year, he's on the wrong side of the age curve by 5 years now, he's not suddenly going to find a turn of speed.

11 players older then he is now hit 20 goals last year, and he is not of the pedigree of Ovechkin, Bergeron, Pavelski.

If they put Neal on McDavids line there's a chance McDavid bounces 20 off his ass. If they don't put him on that line there's a legitimate chance Neal won't hit 20 points yet alone 20 goals, it's not like he's going to generate any offense himself.

Players 32 or older last season who scored 21+ goals, oldest to youngest.

Williams - 23
Pavelski - 38
Parise - 28
Staal -22
Brown - 22
Bergeron - 32
Ovechkin - 51
Soderberg - 23
Radulov - 29
Malkin - 21
Oshie - 25

Does anyone think Neal is part of that group? Any of the players i would think are even close comparables, just barely broke 21. And they're not nearly as slow.

It's a tough one that I keep going back and forth on. They only have 3 NHL caliber forwards. Unless he's a fixture on the top line his quality of linemates will take a big hit. But on a team with forward depth so thin it could split an atom he's going to get a lot of opportunity he would never get here.

I keep thinking something similar.

Yeah you know what. I'll take Neal potting 21+ (to go with what will likely be a near-league-low +/- with top six oiler ice time) and take that tasty third round pick.

What difference will it make when the respective teams will be at opposite ends of the standings? McDavid can't lead them to enough wins, Neal surely won't budge that needle even a bit. We can rest Lucic down the stretch to ensure the 10 goal gap and make it a better bet that he can go full beast in the playoffs.

Neal's too slow to play with either McDavid or Draisaitl. He'd be an anchor on any line 5-on-5.

Well then. That certainly puts things into perspective, in what universe would Neal be comparable to Malkin?

Apperantly the team perk up in Edmonton is getting to use the team excuse writers for your interview prep. "I had to move, and I wasn't playing in the right spot, and I had played a bunch of hockey, and my shot failed me. But it's in the past so why do you keep asking me about it? This year is gunna be unreal tho."
