Edmonton is No Good - in so many ways.

It’s even more hilarious when you compare it to the renderings.

Ours got cost engineered slightly, but oh boy, did Edmonton’s ever get cost engineered to death.

It's somehow worse in person. Whoever decided corrugated steel was a good exterior choice for the design should be fired.

Can you imagine what that place is going to sound like inside during a hail storm?

Reminds me of that old “travel Edmonton” poster that had something along the lines of “perplexing communist architecture” as one of the selling features. That was a classic

The first three are how Staples and Spector see the oilers defence pairings and the fourth is the reality.

Of course, since Picasso was a genius I think it is fairly obvious where "Just a Fan With a Blog" and his sympathies lie, here.

...either that, or Staples is too dumb to know that Picasso was a genius.

It looks like they were trying to do an OMA tribute, but they're no Rem.

Ouch...

Teeple is a good architect; seems like the original facade got value engineered out...still, the final choice seems to be really bad as there are better materials or colors/profiles he could have selected.

clareview rec center is a very good building by Teeple in edmonton... https://www.archdaily.com/619099/cla...ple-architects and that just uses corrugated panels... i'd be curious to hear what happened to the library.

sorry to derail the thread...

Even Edmonton’s little city logo (seen on that community centre photo in the link above) looks like something the background of Cool Runnings.

Edmonton definitely has an interesting architectural style that I can only describe as Redneck Brutalist.

Yeah, there's so much about the original concept missing here. A lot of areas that look like incomplete afterthoughts of an amateur told to 'think abstract!' are re-engineered spins on the original design.
