Either way it's likely he bombs.
Second thing I thought of with that autonomy tweet was "there goes Hunter too"

As much as an NHL position is the ultimate goal I assume, they have a pretty good thing going back in London that would let him be picky

Being the mouthpiece of perennially terrible team? I doubt he's desperate

Being the Oilers GM is a good way to ruin your career and reputation.

The "Search For a GM" thread on HF is just golden. I'm getting more of a kick reading it than CP.

Wow...I'm not big on scrolling through HF but that place is like a Russian nesting doll of lack of self-awareness, self-loathing and depression.

How is it possible that Lombardi or Hextall are not at the top of the list for Oilers GM position?

I would imagine Hextall wants nothing to do with the Oilers after losing 2 Cups to most of their management as a player.

On the surface you would think that people would be jumping at any GM job, but if you're a good candidate, why would you want this one? Most people only get one GM job and why would you set yourself up for failure like this?

The better candidates seem to be willing to be assistant GMs until something opens up they like, but have no concerns about being the number 2 guy for a long time. You would need to be arrogant to the point of insanity to want this job as a rookie GM and think you could turn it around with the setup they have and the contracts you would inherit.

15% off food/drinks is substantial. Additional tickets at STH cost is for the STH to add tickets on a game by game basis; not for public walk up tickets to cost the same. So this is a win too.

The Flames already offer us the unique ticket holder experiences, like game day skates open to the public, luncheons, etc, so this adjustment is also good.

The raising of the minimum listing of TicketExchange would be no good. There were already 6 or 8 games to low interest teams that I could not sell at the minimum. Plus, Stubhub, Fanfirst, etc do not have the minimum.

Do some of them really think Burke would be interested at all? I just don't see it. He hates them, too, just like the rest of us.

The "Release Connor" narrative builds....

First as farce, then as tragedy.

Quote:
The ethical thing to do is release Connor McDavid from captivity and trade him from the misery (a group of NHL players from any city other than Edmonton, and maybe Ottawa, is called a ‘team,’ a group of NHL players from Edmonton is called a ‘misery’). Unburden him of this horrible, horrible place and let him frolic on the heavenly white sheets of some other city’s barn. If we don’t do it, this will go one of two ways: Connor stays nailed to an eight-year contract and the world watches as the existential torment of being the Boy King of the City of Losers irreparably cripples his soul and body, or accelerating climate change turns Rogers Place into a shallow pool and he chokes to death on the discarded pennies left over from the demolished Greyhound bus station Ice District was built on.

And its not just that, again, lack of self-awareness.

Burke loved being in Calgary and working for the Flames, he cant say enough good things about it, but at the same time he still quit because his family and USA Hockey are in New York and the commute sucked.

And finally, a team of wild horses couldnt make him go work for Kevin Lowe. I know that apologies were made and amends achieved but I still dont think Burke would go near that guy.

Hell, Burke accused him of sewering his own team and that team is still in that sewer.

I think the fact there are GMs not showing much interest just shows how much incoming GMs just don't think they would have autonomy.

That is the best read from an Edmonton newspaper in years.
