Sorry. Are you actually watching the show? Because what I mentioned is not relevant to the story and happened over a year ago.

Almost done The Wire, what’s with the long drawn out way the characters say “sh*t”? Is that some kind of Baltimore thing?

We are struggling through The Handmaid's Tale.

Season 1 was great. Season 2 was tolerable. Season 3 is beginning to make me side with the oppressors just to either get things moving again or to at least eliminate some of less likeable characters.

It was like the showrunners watched The Walking Dead and decided amongst themselves to challenge the writers to a game of 'Hold My Beer.'

I thought it went a little off track in season 2, but have found season 3 to be great.

You're crazy. Simply insane.

Season 3 has basically been a masturbation fantasy for arthouse film students.

"Look at the light, and the music and the tone and the expressions!!!"

Uh huh. Are we getting anywhere anytime soon? I mean...all of these characters are wandering around doing basically whatever the hell they want without any consequences that in prior seasons were rather severe.

Nor are they actually getting anywhere or accomplishing anything.

If the overall theme of the series is 'Existence through Futility' then they're doing a bang up job. Its like an existential painting. It looks nice but nothing matters.

Started watching Our Boys on HBO. A lot like Fauda but based on true events.

Would give it a B+

I read that a couple times as "Started watching The Boys..." Was going to hate breaking it to you that it wasn't based on true events ha.

I recently got through a marathon of Parks and Recreation.

Season 1: Now I remember why I never got into this show when it first came out. Just a bad The Office rip off. Skip.
Season 2: That's a little better. Still some awkward writing but overall I'm interested.
Seasons 3-5: Some of the best television comedy ever created. Brilliant writing, brilliant cast, overall just brilliant.
Seasons 6-7: Still hilarious but starting to drag with some repetitive storylines and an overreliance on self referential humour. Also not helped by cast members leaving. I would have been happy with the S6 ending but the extra season did have some great moments and provided a satisfying conclusion.

^That's a pretty perfect critique of the show. I agree 100%.

That is how Senator Clay Davis says it. Everyone else is just mocking him.

We have stalled a couple of episodes into the least season.

I will say that for all the hype this show gets I don't see it.

I mean don't get me wrong it is good, but I am not blown away by it. There have been some good and surprising moments but, yeah it just isn't killing it with me.

I've tried to watch The Wire on 3 separate occasions, spanning a decade, and that's exactly what happens each time. Think I've finally learned that it's just not a show for me.

On a different note, just started watching The Good Place, now that show has me entertained!

I watched part one of the Food that made America on the history channel. Episode 1 covered Kellogs, Coke and Heinz

Really interesting to watch and some things that came out of it

Kellogs - John Kellogs ran the sanitarium while his brother worked behind the scenes, he wanted to make money by selling cereal but John refused believing his brother to be an idiot. The sanitarium burned down and the brothers had a falling out as Robert bought the recipes and left.

CW Post - was a guest at the Kellog's sanitarium who actually stole the receipies and notes and started post cereal.

Heinze - went bankrupt but came across the idea of a tomato based sauce to cover the smell and taste of rotten meat. A true gambler and innovator who was the first to use electricity to power his factory and created assembly lines before Henry Ford. Was a key mover in finding the FDA to destroy his competitors.

Coke - invented by John Pemberton a wounded civil war veteran who was looking for a replacement for his morphine addiction. He accidentally invented coke and then reverse engineered his own formula. Desparate for money he partnered up with Asa Candler. When Pemberton died of stomach cancer, Asa bought the remaining 1/3rd of coke from the family for $600.00. Completely ruthless he was one of the first national distributors of a food product. Later tried to scrub Pemberton from history. Ran afoul of the FDA due to caffeine level in coke, thanks to Henry Heinze.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge just won Emmys for both writing and acting in a comedy series for Fleabag, in the latter beating out Julia Louis Dreyfus (VEEP), and Rachel Brosnahan (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).

So basically, if you haven't watched Fleabag yet, you probably should.

She is amazing.
Interestingly, almost all my favourite comedies this year (Barry being an exception) were created, written and or featured women as the stars of the show.
Good stuff

What were the others? Just curious if I missed a good show. You and I seem to be in agreement most of the time.

Fleabag wins best Comedy series shortly after Jodie Comer wins for Best Drama Actress in Killing Eve.

It's Phoebe Waller-Bridge's world and we just live in it.

I think I appreciate how the show, even though it’s a few years older now, you really see the parallels everywhere. Like Tommy Carcetti, you see especially in some of Calgary’s politicians. Also dummying down bureaucracy was helpful and applicable in some situations here too.

I might have a opportunity to travel to Baltimore for some work stuff. I am kind of interested in this Lake Trout phenomenon.
