Oh well. Neither of those guys are/were high level KHL players so it really wouldn't have mattered if they came over or not. Taratukhin did come over for one season though.

If either of those guys would have developed into KHL stars the chances of them coming over would likely have increased. Same goes with Rafikov and Karnaukhov IMO. If they turn into something over there, they might try their luck in the NHL, if not we've lost nothing anyways.

Probably already mentioned elsewhere in the forum, but Karnaukhov signed a 3 year extension in the KHL along with not showing up to Flames development camp.

I believe the Flames can also apply to have him declared a defected player and hold his rights indefinitely.

I doubt it too, but might as well keep his rights. You never know, maybe in 3 years he improves and wants to come back to the NHL. Doubtful because as a 19 year old in the WHL he was unable to dominate, but the Flames should keep their options open.

As a 19 year old he was Russia's 2C at the juniors and he put up one of the best u20 season ever in the VHL (Russia's AHL). He's got more talent than he's given credit for around here.

Isn't he from Belarus? Did he really play for Russia?

He is a dual citizen. He got an offer to play for Belarus in the 2016 WJC but turned it down. Now that he has played for Russia in the 2017 WJC, he is considered a Russian by the IIHF.

Off to a hot start with 7 points in 4 VHL games

0 points in 3 KHL games though, he really needs to take the next step and play top tier competition.

Up to 14 points in 9 games now

Second in league PPG, but still no success in the KHL

Pavel Karnaukhov and Linden Vey were on the roster for CSKA Moscow (the old Central Red Army) during the KHL playoffs and won the Gagarin Cup yesterday. They beat Bob Hartley's team from Omsk 4 games to nothing to win the KHL championship. Not sure if Pavel will ever come over to NHL but its some positive news around here.
