I'm pretty sure that on December 14th a picture will surface of kovy jaywalking and the kings will void his contract.

I would seriously consider Lucic + 2nd for Kovy just to get out of that contract.

That would be a spectacular deal for the Flames, and it ain’t going to happen.

Eating two years of cap is worth way more than a second round pick.

I'm pretty sure Kovalchuk is a right-handed shot and plays both wings. I think I'd move Frolik for him TBH

The extra year of cap makes that a non-starter and a foolish move.

Kovalchuk's agent did an amazing job with this contract.

Considering he apparently only wanted to play in 3 or 4 major cities in the US, to get a 3 year deal for that kind of $ and a NMC is astounding.

I'd agree with that. Was there really that much interest in Kovalchuk to warrant a contract like that?

So $6+M cap hit for not playing hockey. The term is different, but for this year and next, assuming no buyout, that's worse than Lucic's contract. So I assume people will stop saying that

You can’t just ignore the term. That’s a big reason why these Lucic-based trade ideas make no sense at all for the Kings.

Well, I did say this year

Even without it, $6+M for no hockey x 2 versus $5+M for some hockey X 4. Plus I still think something will happen earlier than the play out of that contract. Note - the Kovalchuk contract is buyout proof because its 35+. We said that about Lucic but it's not strictly true - it's just not economic for a couple years.

Well if anyone can magically make Lucic's contract disappear it's LA. Just hide a few oxy's in his luggage or something.

Even if Lucic were making half of what he does, I’d still rather have Kovalchuk sitting out for two years. It’s not even a question.

A rebuilding team like the Kings could use the extra roster spot and shorter expiration date way more than whatever marginal skill set Lucic has left. The difference in term does not balance out the difference between Lucic and what amounts to a $6 million volleyball with a face drawn on.

Isn't this a 35+ contract? How can they just get rid of it with no cap implications?
