I'm going to miss Gibby as well. Wasn't a fan during his first stint but he really grew on me during his 2nd stint. Underrated manager IMO but I also think it's good time for a change.

Hoping they stay away from Wedge or some retread and go the Stubby Clapp route.

It HAS to be Stubby Clapp. Seems like a no brainer to me, unless the Cardinals hire him. Even then, maybe he wants to come home.

Jays called up Jon Berti?

If you're saying "who?" I don't blame you he's been a jays farmhand forever. Happy to see his perseverance payoff.

http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp...tting/2018/ALL

I hope he get's a hit. This might be his only MLB game.

He got a hit, haha. Awesome to see.

Thought the fans gave Gibby a solid send off too. Not often a manager gets to have a send off like that with everyone knowing it's his last home game ahead of time.

I think that’s why Atkins announced it ahead of the final home game, which is a nice move on his part. Let’s Gibby have his moment where he can get a proper send off.

Also I’m pretty sure I saw John Berti play for the Vancouver Canadians a while ago. Nice for him to finally get his MLB debut!

SRF very solid, jays win, Gibby says good bye to Toronto. Nice final home game for the Jays this season.

Worked out well that Astros clinched the night before. The team with a little something to play for won today. Good.

Nice move by management to acknowledge Gibbons' contributions. I liked the guy as a person as he always seemed to be a players' coach and had the right approach to baseball by keeping guys loose instead of playing like you're going to lose your job if you don't get a hit. He had the right approach to most of the game, and it's a shame he's gone, but it seemed like the right time to do it if they don't want him to be the scape guy during a rebuild. I don't know who they bring in as his replacement but I do hope it's someone who puts more pressure on pictures by getting them thinking about the steal more.

.
Proper send off, as far as having more fans to come out, would’ve been to announce it at least the day of the second to last game home game, given that the last home game was a mid afternoon weekday start.

Not really going to find many old school guys like Gibby anymore. Players coming up as managers are different obviously then when Gibby played, and the manager now more then ever is a glorified babysitter with the egos (which have always been there) but the tens of millions of dollars these players make. With metrics and stats and support staff, things such as pitching changes and batting order shuffles are more formalized as well.

Miss seeing him waddle out to the mound or to the umps to argue calls. Seems like a great guy to have a beer with. Players coach to be sure...the Mark Buhrle attempt for his record on a final season game vs Tampa, things such as the Tulo thing below...and in his final game tomorrow, Russ Martin is going to manage, so you can see where that is going too.

The Jays really need to focus on developing young talent and the manager should reflect that. I wouldn’t expect the next manager to be the manager when the team is a contender again.

I was not a fan at all of Gibby's during his first stint. I was really ticked off and surprised when they hired him again. Today........I will kind of miss him. Quite the turnaround for me. Didn't see that coming.

Even though I didn't like the way he handled some things like leaving pitchers out too long I do like him as a person and wish it would have worked out so that he could have stayed. I do think it's time for a change though.

Soooo Jays season over. 89 losses

My wishlist for the off season just off the top of my head...

1. Move Pillar and let Grichuk, Hernandez, McKinney, Alford, Smith Jr and Davis battle for the ABs. I especially want to see lots of Alford. Once highly touted lets see what we've got in an ecpected down year.

2. Move one of Morales or Smoak. Time for Tellez to sink or swim with steady ABs and time at 1B.

3. Move Russ. Houston seems like a good potential destination for his final year. Jansen and Mcguire look ready for MLB and can platoon that spot easily.

4. Unless someone blows Atkins socks off I'd keep Stroman and Sanchez for now. I'd like to see Happ brought back, or some other decent mid rotation vet. Then let the youth battle for the last 2-3 rotation spots. Borucki, Pannone, SRF, Paulino, Perez etc..

Nah, I'd keep Martin. The Jays would have to eat almost all of his salary to move him at all and I'd rather have him around as back-up to mentor Jansen and he showed he has positional flexibility so he can be a warm MLB body all around the diamond.

It's Tulo that I'd try to move...

Move where? How? I don't think there's any possibility to get rid of a $20m/yr salary with a player who's barely touched the field in two years.

I think it’s quite possible Tull never plays another major league game. Collects the rest of his money on the IR. No team will touch his contact unless the Jays keep most of it.
