Vladdy jr went 3 for 5 today and is at .343 now.

Also noticed the Bisons have lost 9 straight. hopefully they turn it around before the season ends.

Man is it depressing seeing all the clips with JD in Indians gear.

We were totally robbed of having an MVP caliber 3rd baseman for the last 2 seasons because of ####ing injuries.

Indians in Toronto on Thursday too, for 4 games. Wonderful.

SRF back up to start today, just struck out the side in the 1st.

Hopefully he doesn't let this crap Marlin line up eat his lunch.

Man, I wonder if any 3rd base coach in the majors has more guys gunned down at home plate than Rivera...

Soooo nice to see SRF just pounding the strike zone today. He looks 100 times more confident in this start than his last two.

3 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 5 K's and 28 strikes on 37 pitches.

Keep the wheels on kid.

Apparently the Indians are putting JD on the DL so he can rehab some more in AAA. Would be on it for 10 days it sounds like so he will miss the series in TO this week.

Kind of too bad when you think about it, he would have gotten quite the send off I'm sure.

Welcome back Marcus Stroman.

4 outs so far and also 4 runs.

So tired of watching him and Sanchez getting knocked around over and over again.

Pretty forthcoming interview with Atkins about the thought process for the Jays going forward, and why they didn't deal JD in the off-season. Most I believed, but man, someone erred badly in thinking this team though aging, was a legit contender. As for depth in case some prospects don't pan out, I agree fully. What I don't agree with him in his maximizing returns. Going for depth is the equivalent of a consolidation prize when they lost out on getting blue chippers - while nice, you still need those high value prospects. At least he came across as genuine in the video. Also he doesn't rule out JD coming back, though I doubt it ever transpires.

I wonder if we will see Rowdy Tellez with the big club in the next day or so. He had an alright bounce back season and giving him a taste of the majors would probably help him take another step in his development.

I am also curious what the plan is for the outfield next year, I am having hard time seeing where Pillar fits on this team next year. I think Grichuk gives you just as good of defense in CF and gives you a more offense. McKinney has shown to be a capable RF. The question mark is Teoscar, does his bat make up for his defense, so far I would say no, but if they do decide to go with him in LF then is Pillar the 4th OF, or is Smith Jr. or Alford going to be able to take that job.

Now that his value had absolutely bottomed out probably time for atkins to trade him.

I doubt Pillar is going anywhere in CF, he is close to a 2 WAR player, he's arb eligible and will be cheap. Pillar's batting ability leaves A LOT to be desired (ie. he is brutal at the plate) so having said that I really like your idea of Grichuk taking over CF, as I feel he offers more value with his bat. Grichuk OPS+ this season 113 (Career of 108) vs. Pillar's OPS+ 89 (Career at 86!) But I think what we are seeing right now of McKinney, Pillar, Grichuk as 7/8/9 is going to be what we see a lot of next year. My ideal world next year where everything works out we have McKinney, Grichuk, Biggio 7/8/9. But that is assuming a lot of things go right.

You're right in saying Teoscar is a question mark, when he hits a ball it's usually goes a long way, but he also strikes out a ton and his defence in the outfield has been, at times, really bad. I just don't see him doing one of anything especially well enough to have a full time outfield spot next season.

Smith Jr I see as a quad A player and I don't see him taking over any outfield positions next year. Alford is still an intriguing prospect, he is only 24 and had an absolutely brutal start to his AAA season but has actually quietly turned his season around. In May he had a slash line of .147/.205/.162 and now it's .240/.312/.344. I still have hope for Alford.

Yeah, hopefully Alford has made adjustments, can stay healthy, and continues to trend upwards. Like FFDU said I don't see Pillar going anywhere. Cheap bottom of the order bat with above average D.

CF - Pillar
RF - Grichuk
LF - McKinney
4th OF / DH - Hernandez

Hopefully Alford can eventually push Pillar out.

It will be nice if Smoak, Morales and Martin can have strong years in 2019. They will all be pending UFA's and if they Jays eat salary could bring back decent returns if they are producing next season. Especially Martin, with his new found versatility. Of course, this is the Jays so I imagine all three will spend significant time on the DL next season and/or be terrible.
