Still, his value is sky high. Young 100+ point power forwards are a rarity and every team wants one.

And while people here are crazy about Barzal, in NY they aren’t thrilled with him at the moment.

That's not what I said.
If he wants to stay in Calgary though, it's in his best interests to make Treliving's job easier by signing as soon as possible. If he wants to win, that is.

OK, so now that's twice you have said what you just denied saying.
‘Lol’ indeed.

Nope I didn't guarantee anything...but you can go ahead and play that game if it makes you feel good

It seems to me you want to trade Tkachuk to a team that is willing to pay far too much for him. Easier said than done.
|
I felt my point was pretty obvious. Due to this outlier year, Tkachuk appears to be a legit franchise winger, and other teams may pay that price. In reality, without Gaudreau, Tkachuk is not a 100 point player, and, IMO, his intangibles in the playoffs aren't all that spectacular. In fact, they often do more harm than good and serve to act as a distraction.
The Flames, therefore, may want to cash out and sell high on Tkachuk before he inevitably comes back down to Earth.

I stopped replying to this guy's reasoning a while ago. He wants to see the Flames tear it down and suck because he is an Oilers fan.

Honestly if Flames could swing Tkachuk for Barzal + (Wahlstrom?) I would be down for that.
Barzal probably will be easier to sign.
Solves the question of another puck mover to take pressure off Gaudreau.
Lou would probably love Tkachuk.
Gaudreau - Lindholm
Mangiapane - Barzal
Coleman - Backlund
Toffoli, Pelletier, Dube, etc could fill out the spots around those guys, and suddenly the speed of our forwards looks like a strength instead of a weakness.

At this stage even if they had an equal cap hit Lindholm>>Barzal

There is a difference between "it being his job" and it being "in his best interests"
I also used the word "incentive"
I never said it "was his job"

I think a lot of team, especially teams with smaller/softer players, see Tkachuk as the answer. Maybe you are correct, and everyone else sees the truth, in which case if the offers coming back are for that 70-80 point Tkachuk, it's likely not worth it. However, you never know who is desperate out there.

You're assuming that the people running those teams are less informed than you are.

I would personally rather have the Devils (fans) offer of 2ndOA+Holtz than Barzal. More cost control and easier to manage the short and long term of the team

Yes. Friedman on the Marek show said he expects Gaudreau may give the Flames an indication next week if he plans to stay or test free agency.
He also mentioned the Flames have a “huge offer” on the table that will likely be more than any other team will want to offer

Calgary watches highlight reels of Barzal, and I was a fan for quite a while, but he has a pretty good disappearing act at times.

Tkachuk is the type of player that generates a lot of energy. If you read other fan threads, the opinion is always "I can't stand that guy, but do I ever wish he played for my team".
There are all sorts of pundits sharing my exact same opinion....so maybe I'm totally wrong, and no GMs see Tkachuk as more than he actually he, due to a 100 point season, but it's worth looking.

Maybe it’s 11Mx8. Any other team would have to offer 12.5 to even come close. Even 11.5x7 is 7.5 M less. That’s a real test of $ versus travel/family etc versus a job for only 8 years (or less if traded or injured) of a long life.
