Backlund or Paajarvi-Svensson
Which one will have the better career?
Backlund brings a lot of comparisons to Henrik Zetterberg as both are flashy 2-way forwards and Paajarvi-Svensson has some similarities to Peter Forsberg.
Who do you think is better and why?
(I'm new to the boards and just want to have a good discussion going )

Let's hope the only similarity between MPS and Forsberg is a broken foot.

Backlund has shown more in a North American setting. Svendrobinson has yet to do his thing in the dub, AHL, or NHL, so it is tough to tell at this point.

The one thing Backlund has over Paaj is an elite NHL shot, accruate and heavy. Paaj is more playmaker with speed than anything. As of right now, his shot is average at best.

Magnus was certainly better in Sweden though. MPS played in the SEL against men and made the WJ team as a 16 and 17 year old. Last season he tied Backlund in points in the tourney despite being two years younger.
I think a guy has to take MPS until Backlund does something impressive at the pro level.

I think a guy has to take Backlund until MSP can prove he can play the north american game. If he came over and played well in the Dub or OHL, then yeah, he is gonna be good. But maybe he cant handle the physicality. At least we know that Backlund plays well on the smaller ice surfaces. And has actually acquitted himself quite well in his first NHL game. Of course it WAS against the Islanders.
But dont get me wrong, MPS was awesome at world juniors, he was definitely more dynamic than Backlund in the games i saw. I think he could be a good player.
I adopt a wait and see approach to everyone though.
PS. I hate these fffffffking lame threads, but i am inexplicably drawn to post on CP.

Until both players make their teams and play 2-3 seasons its pointless to debate. Rob schremp was supposed to be the next great one a few years ago for oiler fans and look how that turned out. Rico Fata was thought to be a top flight player. It all depends on the work ethic and how bad they want to make the nhl at this point.

I would agree that Backlund hasn't proven himself as a NHL pro yet and that is key. Both prospects can demonstrate some outstanding ability but the holes will create problems with their game. As mentioned in the previous post, Schremp seems to have been a good example of this.
This is going to be the real test for Backlund. No matter where he starts to play, he isn't going to have a serious injury to work his way through, nor is he going to be started on the lowest lines. We will learn a lot about him.

Do you see at least 1300 points out of this one too?

Backlund - he has the quality organization and structure to help him reach his potential.
PMS or whatever will get extreme hype up north, they will rush him in, and when he doesn't score 10 goals in his first game he will be buried in the minor leagues to play along side supa-star Schremp for the rest of his days.

Magnus Peemypants-Svansong is the next Rostislav Olesz.
What a funny topic to post on CalgaryPuck. Of course Backlund will be better, Phaneuf and Bouwmeester will be passing him the puck as opposed to Tom Gilbert and ? No bias here.

Paajarvi Magnus Svensson's career will be marred by a collection of physical, psychological, and emotional issues. Such issues will be predictable and occur regularly. He will suffer from irritability, tension, mood swings as well as some bloating and cramping. Fortunately, Oiler training staff have an extensive history with this ailment as numerous Oiler players have suffered from this disorder, most recently, Alice Hemsky.
Backlund will make him cry

Why do we even care if the Oiler's prospects wind up having better careers than ours?
It's not like they'll be doing it in Edmonton...

Backlund they way he played in the WHL playoffs last season was incrediable, he's a great young talent! Well both of them are. They are the first 2 young talents with huge hype in a long time in Calgary and hopefully they do it.

Both have impressed me so far, but I think Backlund's impact will be greater. Svensson has a higher potential though, I think.
