Tried Carls Jr. Not bad, reminded me of a slightly fresher Burger King. With BBQ sauce. Little pricey though

It's basically a more expensive but higher quality Burger King/McDonalds. They pretty blatantly rip off the other fast food chains, charge more, but make it higher quality.

I was in there recently and their newest burger made me laugh. They call it the California Classic burger, and it's essentially an In-and-Out Animal Style Double Double.

Tried Carls Jr at the weekend. Not a fan. I can't stand sloppy burgers where everything drips and slides off the bun. This one (The Big Carl) just made me angry.

They've had the "Big Carl" for a while. It's actually pretty shocking that they get away with it from an intellectual property rights point of view. I guess the burgers are just different enough.

They’re McDonalds – I’m McDowell’s.
They have the Golden Arches – I have the Golden Arcs.
They got the Big Mac – I have the big Mick.
My buns don’t have sesame seeds on them.

This is actually a really tough question, as to whether you have copyright in a recipe and how much you'd have to change it to avoid that copyright if you do. For example, National makes a thing called the Glory Bowl, which is a 100% rip off of a dish created by the Fresh Tracks Cafe in Nelson (published in a popular series of cookbooks)... which is also called the Glory Bowl.
Always baffled me that they could get away with that without even giving credit.

Interesting - never thought of that.
http://paleomagazine.com/recipe-copyright/
The Ohio case is Tomaydo-Tomahhdo LLC et. al v. Vozary et. al (N.D. Ohio 1/29/2015)
https://ipspotlight.files.wordpress....c-v-vozary.pdf
When addressing the copyright claim, the court quoted an unpublished Sixth Circuit opinion which stated:The identification of ingredients necessary for the preparation of food is a statement of fact…. Thus, recipes are functional distinctions for achieving a result and are excluded from copyright protection.
The court could have — but did not — mention the Copyright Office’s fact sheet on this issue, which states:Copyright law does not protect recipes that are mere listings of ingredients. Nor does it protect other mere listings of ingredients such as those found in formulas, compounds, or prescriptions. Copyright protection may, however, extend to substantial literary expression—a description, explanation, or illustration, for example—that accompanies a recipe or formula or to a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook.

Ate at Harveys today - are burgers shrinking? Big Macs too seem to be getting smaller.

Seems like McDonalds ploy to launch the "Grand Mac" was well timed. Reviews say the taste is the same, but the overall experience is grosser. Upsizing the Big Mac makes it a sloppy mess.

I was referring more to the trademark and imaging side. Creating a burger with 2 patties and 3 buns, that is called the "Big" anything seems a little offside to me. You think you wouldn't need the combination of that name and appearance. I guess the "Big Carl" only has 2 buns....

We went to Smugglers for dinner a week ago to celebrate my Mother-in-law's birthday and I was considering ordering a burger. I asked our waiter if he would recommend their burger but he shook his head no. I ordered the baby back ribs instead and boy was I extremely happy with that decision, those ribs were delicious.

Burgers pretty big at smugglers, plus salad bar and soups included in price. I like them. I find the bacon really thick but most people probably like that.

If those onions aren't caramelized to dark brown and the patties don't get mustard on them before frying it ain't animal style. source: ate In'N'Out twice last week; caved and had animal style fries on the second.

But Burger King has the Big King (I think that is what they call it) and it is obviously their version of the Big Mac. I'm not sure if the folks at McDonald's had any problem with that.

Animal style on the burger is a bad call, pile of slime.
The fries though? If you don't get animal style you're a monster.

Animal style on the burger is awesome. Frying mustard into the patty is what completes the flavour profile. If it's wrong then I don't want to be right.
