I recently watched Ordinary People and he did a great job as the swim coach. He's in too many great movies to list.

Science fiction author Vernor Vinge, perhaps most famous for theorizing an AI singularity but wrote some of the best sci-fi novels of the 90's.

Louis Gossett Jr has passed on.
https://variety.com/2024/film/obitua...ts-1235955575/

Louis Gossett Jr., who won a supporting actor Oscar for playing the hard-as-nails drill instructor in 1982’s “An Officer and a Gentleman” a few years after winning an Emmy for his role as the cunning Fiddler in “Roots,” has died, the AP reports. He was 87.

Tremendous actor IMO.

Still like the Iron Eagle movies and Diggstown among others.

Can't remember ever seeing him in something that he wasn't the best part of the movie. Officer and a Gentleman for sure, but one of my favorites is The Principal with Jim Belushi. Gossett was such a bad ass character in that movie.

His most memorable role to me was the cop in the Punisher movie with Dolph Lundgren. I was way too young when I saw that movie.

We just won't talk about the last two seasons of Stargate.

You got a source? I can't find anything.

Joel Murray posted about it on Twitter but that's it. Maybe he knows him. I hope it isn't true.

God damn it! It sucks getting old and so many people you looked up to as a kid passing away. SCTV was an obsession for me as a teenager.

Flaherty and Candy gone now from that incredible group

I believe Flaherty was pretty sick and needed full time care for the last while, so not entirely surprising. Fun actor, made some great characters.

Aw crap. I was hoping it wasn't true.

SCTV was the best show this country ever produced and Joe had so many great characters. Count Floyd has been mentioned by Guy Caballero was my favourite. You gotta love a guy who uses a wheelchair for respect.

RIP Joe.
