Sounds like McDonagh may have felt forced into accepting the trade.

Flyers gave Nolan Patrick and Phil Myers for Ryan Ellis. Ellis had a bad injury this year, but that trade is lookin pretty good in hindsight.

Hard to say that, since no one can even say when Ellis will return next year or what he will look like when he does.

At least Nashville turned the cap space, along with Myers and a minor-leaguer, into a legitimate top-4 defender.

Right now, that trade is looking better for Nashville.

Nashville can look at it as they traded Ellis and Mismash for McDonagh and Glass. Pretty good deal for them.

"[Nick Kypreos] ”the way it was described to me if RYAN McDONAGH didnt agree to be traded, he was going to be waived and Tampa had a commitment from Columbus to claim him, he wasnt thrilled about getting traded” (real kyper and bourne show 10min35s)"

A great example of the difference between a full NTC and a full NMC.

Am i the only one who doesn't find this shocking or even really noteworthy? Parties to contracts often find creative ways to escape specific clauses. That was exactly what was done here. An NMC would have prevented this gambit, and has a place, but McDonough's contract only had an NTC. Is he pissed he was traded? Sure. But the team at least gave him the option, as the alternative was the ego shock from being waived and claimed. Which would have been a totally valid and unshocking move for Tampa given their well documented cap issues.

IMO McDonough has absolutely nothing to complain about. The team treated him well by offering him the choice. A real cutthroat would not have given that option.

If McDo was waived, he'd be picked up by Coyotes. BJ's were a lot closer to winning a Cup than the Preds TBH even though they're in a way tougher division and conference. The Lightnings probably wanted him to go to the Preds to get at least some return back.

At least Tennessee is a cheap tax state, so McDonaugh can't be as chapped about taking less to be in Florida and than get sold to Anaheim or Montreal. I'm sure that came up here in him accepting this deal.
